Synthetic oil & our V-twins, I hear it's BAD????
« on: October 17, 2006, 05:30:30 PM »

Heard today from my boss, that owns a new Big Dog K-9 poor guy, lol.
that S&S tells them NOT to use synthetic oil in there motors. The reason
is the bearings become to slick and the the bearings that are suppose to
roll are sliding & wears a Flat spot on them & the motor will eventurelly
fail. I have a 06 SE Fatboy that came with Syn3 in it & I now use
Mobile1 V-Twin in it. Can anyone shead some light on this for me. I find
it guite disturbing, being I thought S&S and Harley motors where close
to being the same. But sure hope I'm wrong.

chit canned the Syn3 replaced it with Redline Shockproof in the tranney and Mobil one Vtwin in the other slots.  Shifts smoother and runs great......

Actually there was an issue with Teflon additives that did indeed cause bearings to slide instead of actually rolling on the needles or balls.  Synthetic oil is fine.  ;)

I would love to swithc the tranny to Redline Shockproof but that just gives the MOCO an excuse not to fix it under warranty if it breaks.

Is your dealer or MoCo giving you the fluids for your transmission? If they aren't you have the right (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) to use what ever fluids you want as long as they meet or exceed manufacturer
