Do a search and there is at least one thread on this.  Hard to believe they made a seat that wasn't prepared for a backrest.  A backrest is the last thing I would take off my bike.  Good luck.

If you want to go solo with a backrest you will have to get an after market seat. Mustang, Corbin, C&C
I just went with a regular Harley seat with the Adjustable HD backrest for a while. I already had them from my old bike.

Well guys I will tell you something but I'm about to find out in a couple of days. Well, I bought on march a brand new 2011 softail deluxe and the same story happened when I removed the passenger seat, it looked cool but I needed a back rest for myself. HD told me the same thing that I have to buy the seat which is one piece for rider and passenger to be able to mount a back rest. I did some search, and I found that back rest, I bought it and it was great, even looked great. Today I bought my second bike 2012 CVO street glide and I noticed that the mounting screws for the rider seat are exactly the same as the one I have in my deluxe, of course this is only by looking at them, so I will try to mount that back rest from my deluxe to the SG and I will let you know guys. I think 90% it will work. I hope so.
Here is the link for the back rest

Bought  a new Road glide custom CV while on a trip in the right place at the right time (Sauk City HD great guys to do business with) road it home my back and arms were killing me.  tried to buy a back rest -nothing available you've got to be kidding me! What are these guys at Harley thinking. Is a 20year old kid going to spend $30,000 plus on a bike? Wanted to keep the stock seat liked the way it looked end result Had to make one out of 2 inch flat stock took about 2-3 hours used a passenger back rest off a road king (because the new one I bought out of the 2012. Cat didn't match different shade of brown) Let me say it again what are you guys thinking at Harley  Mike

Well, guys as i promised
I went today to get my new 2012 CVO SG from the local dealer and the first thing i did, i took the backrest off my Deluxe to try it on the stock SG seat and guess what!!!! It worked perfectly
the two mounting bolts from the Deluxe ended up to be the exact mount on the SG
Here ya go the photos

This is not an HD part, I bought this from EBAY for my deluxe and it was perfectly fit, and when I bought this CVO, I wanted to try it to see if it will fit and it really did.

CVO 2012;

With your rider back rest installed, can you re-attach the passenger seat as well?  Haven't had my passenger seat off to see how it attaches.

Thank you

CVO2012, looks good on there.  Any chance you can give us a couple of pics of the backrest unmounted?  i'd like to see the mounting points on the backrest in particular.

thanks

Basicly any seat that fits 2009 and up Touring bikes will still bolt on. You don't need anything special. For the Street Glide or Road Glide.

CVO 2012, Looks like the backrest sits back at an angle on the CVO compared to more upright on your Duluxe. Did you sit on it while mounted to your CVO and see how it rest against your back?

Sweet looking Deluxe buy the way! :2vrolijk_21:

Well, yes you are right
It is slightly angled backward comparing to its upright position on the Deluxe, but it was a temporary solution until I got my C&C seats solo seat.

I bought this per his suggestion and yes you can mount it on the bike, but you will not like it on the bike.

Mustang # 79600.   I really like this seat.  And it comes with a really sweet backrest.   499.00 at j&p cycles.    They also have the rear passenger pillon too.   In the jp catalogue it is their part #802-186.     The rear is part #802-016.

Hi, a question please,  does the Mustang Rear Pillion fit to the bike without removing the rubber trim strips to the rear of the riders seat on the rear fender? Seveal seats on the HD site reqire those strips to be removed - No way would I do that by the way.

I don't have the passenger seat yet, it was on back order when i picked up the rider seat,,  they didnt say anything about removing the strips,,  I reallly dont think that should be an issue.   These seat manufactrurers have to know how the Street Glide is built.   I can let you know when I get it..  should be a few more days..

Texas fat boy
Well, it was a matter of taste, for me I put it as a temporary solution because I took it off my Deluxe so I had to put it back later on when I got my solo C&C seats, I had a a pair of this backrest pad's bracket and one of them had some scratches on the chrome bracket so I thought to give it a try on the CVO, I even had someone to bend the bracket little forward to obtain the upright position. So, it was all a try to see the mounting position and the outcome. But I'm sure if I had not order the C&C seat even before I receive the bike, I would have kept this backrest on.

Yes, please let us know and thanks for the pic. It kind of looks like the seat itself has a little more low back (butt) support than the stock one?

I got my mustang rear pillar.   It would not fit with the rubber trim strips at all.   Stuck up way too high.  I flipped it over and there are 2 rubber bumbers held on worth a rivet.   I oulled them off and then clipped off the divots smooth.   Fits perfectly now.   And looks great.   The bumpers hit exactly where the strips are mounted to the bike and now the seat sits on the rubber strips.    It's good.  :2vrolijk_21:  I'll post a pic in bit.

CVOSTU, Thanks for the picture!

Does the detachable passenger backrest fit with the Mustang passenger pad and if so can you post a picture?

Thanks again,

the Mustang rear pillar does sit up higher than the stock one.  Also. there is a black plastic round spacer that goes between the fender and the mounting tab that picks it up a little higher.  The passeneger backrest DOES go on, but it is a little snug.   I don't really want to try it without the spacer and have it mount too close to the fender.  I think its fine and good to know if i have a passenger there is a back rest on.  I'm good with it.

Maybe I can check the catalogue and see if mustang offers a back rest pad for tha passenger back rest.   I don't use it very often at all.  When my BSR rides with me, she likes a tour pack.   And she also wants the one with the arm rest this time.   Check book time again soon,  I can feel it.  :nixweiss:

Thanks for the info CVOSTU andfor the pictures. Its good to know that the Mustang riders saddle / back rest can be mated with the Mustang pillion seat and still be able to use the stock CVO pillion back rest without removing those strips.

I was out on the Black Beauty today and I honestly didnt find the lack of a riders back rest an issue, but that was only after 160 miles. I will need to get a riders back rest eventually for those long trips I am planning for the sunny summer days ( yes we do get a few days like that in the UK ).

Ahh.  That's really good to hear.  :2vrolijk_21: I like this Mustang seat a lot.  The backrest is perfect and has lots od adjustment.  Bur the seat is so comfortable. I wish I tried them on my 04.   I was always looking for the right seat for that bike.  Just found it.  I looked at the Corbin seats.   Seemed kind of hard to me.  You won't be disappointed with this seat.

CVOSTU .  Do you reckon that the Mustang riders solo saddle is of the same width as that of the HD supplied solo saddle. Just checking this as I am a bit on the short of leg rider. Inside leg is 29 inches. Do you think I would have any issues with that Mustang saddle please. The Harley saddle fits me perfectly, though it could be a slight bit narrower. Also is the depth ofthe saddle about the same as that of the HD saddle please?  Sorry to bug you with questions but I dont have the opportunity to actually see one of these saddles as in the UK we can only order in from the states and buyer beware.
Cheers and thanks.

The mustang seat might be slightly narrower.  It fits the bike just right.  The mustang seat might pick you up an inch or so. The seat is so comfortable you won't want to get off the bike.   You will love it!! :2vrolijk_21:

Maybe I can check the catalogue and see if mustang offers a back rest pad for tha passenger back rest.   I don't use it very often at all.  When my BSR rides with me, she likes a tour pack.   And she also wants the one with the arm rest this time.   Check book time again soon,  I can feel it.  :nixweiss:

I know that feeling, I've got to have a tour pack for the wife, but I want to have just the pad for the every day short trips when I pick her up from work.  Once again, thanks for the pix and input! :dankk2:

Looking at it again, I think he did.  ???   Stu, looking at that 3/4 view of your Mustang in the solo mode, it looks like the mounting posts are exposed behind the seat.  Is that correct?  Can you take a pic from the rear?

Why would he take those off?  I like them.  Yes, the mounting nuts are exposed behind the mustang seat.  I bought the nice chrome ones from mustang.  They don't look bad to me at all.  The rear seat attached to those and then a mounting screw in the rear.  I'll take  a pic shortly.  The game is about to start.   ;D

Maybe the Corbin passenger pad does not lock in with those strips on the rear fender. I know it has to lock in to the pin that screws on to the rear fender and maybe the strips don't let the seat get far enough down to make that happen?

Mike.  I had to remove the rubber bumpers that are rivited to the bottom.  Once those were removed, the seat fits flush on the strips. It came with a spacer that goes between the mounting tab and the fender for added protection. The thumb screw that came with the bike works fine back there.

That's on the Mustang seat--right???  I know the Corbin is completely different since it locks to a mounting pin that sticks up on the rear fender.

fortunately, I don't need a pillion pad for the SESG3.  When we two-up, we take the SEURG.  The SESG3 is just my "solo" ride.  But I'd like to have a back rest.  Maybe, just maybe, the MoCo has seen the folly in their ways with the SERGC and SESG3 seat and come out with a matching backrest at the mid-year meeting.   :nixweiss:

I have to have a backrest.   Holds me on the bike so I feel comfortable twisting the throttle.  Also the support on a long trip.

Yes Im sure the MoCo will decide to do a SESG3 rider backrest!  Just like they decided to do the lighted consle on the SESG2!

Here´s what I did on my 2012 FLXHSE3. Hope this works for you.

I purchased part 51144-02 and 51099-02 (Softail Deuce Backrest) and mounted it backwards. All I did was secure it with tough Velcro (works fine since what holds it in place is the rider´s weight), and added a rubber padding to protect the fender. The easiest install ever and works great. The only drawback is it only works with a solo passenger configuration.

here are some pictures

I painted mine black to match the bike. Chrome looked great too.

and one more fyi.

I forgot to mention this is easy to remove without tools. I replaced the stock screws for a bit longer ones, but still holds and hides in place with the oem bolts.  Very easy to install and take off, a matter of seconds.  The backrest fits with no problems in the saddlebag.  I like way better the looks of the bike without the backrest, but for the long haul, it`s a must for me.

Hey, Coco, looks like a possible solution.  I have no problem with the stock seat, my butt must have a lot more padding than many on this forum.

My question is, does the MoCo still sell these?  If not, do Corbin, Mustang, or C&C have after market backrests?  Any suggestions where to find a backrest that will fit an '02 Deuce Softail?

Was looking at the p&a catalog and it looks like Harley makes a solo seat with a backrest now. The signature series solo seat #51700-09 . Might be looking ito one myself :pineapple:

Did the Corbin Solo and love it.  Sent them pics of stock seat and you can tell by the pics they did a great job copying design.  My only beef is their back rest design, doesn't flex like the Harley on I had on previous Ultra, I have short arms but now that I'm getting Wild1 575 that should make things right by setting me back 2'.
