Does anyone have TTS Mastertune on their '10 SESG?
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:11:42 AM »

I am thinking about purchasing a TTS Mastertune for my 10 SESG.  Does anyone have this modification on their bike?  Is it best to install it before or after you change out the exhaust?  How does the SE Pro Tuner compare to TTS?  Thanks in advance!

I do not have one....   yet, but plan to install one which I will be purchasing through one of this sites vendors.  You can find several who offer discounts under the Vendor Discounts.

Most people would advise you to find a good tuner and use what product they recommend.  If you will be using a dyno tuner to set up your bike it is most important for them to be compfortable with the tools they will be using.

The TTS Mastertune has the Auto Tune option which has been covered extensively on this forum.  You can find many threads on the topic under Intake/Exhaust/ECM, just do a search for Mastertune there.

If you plan to tune your own bike (which I do) then you may like this option.

If all your planning to do to the bike is change the exhaust then you may not need this to overcome the minor change that should occur.  I would go with a tune anyway because at least you can richen up the AFR to overcome some of the heat (although there may be cheaper alternatives if that is all you plan to modify).  If you go with the TTS with autotune you can do your own before and after the exhaust change because your not having to go to the dyno or tuner and you should achieve a very close tune to what you would have if you'd gone to the dyno.

The up side to the TTS IMHO is:
1.  Being able to re-load your stock map
2.  Being able to do your own tune
3.  Being able to repeat step 2 as often as you see fit.
4.  Good cutomer support from vendors who offer it from this site as well as the manufacturer

I'm sure others may have more/better information for you as you must understand I've never used one yet.

A couple of questions you need to ask yourself:
Are you planning on doing the install and tune yourself, or are you going to a tuner with dyno?
What are your goals with the bike?
How comfortable are you with doing the computer work for a "DIY" install and tune? This does take a "learning curve" to become familiar with the software.

Both systems have their pros and cons, but, FYI: I've used the TTS on 2 of my bikes and love it!
I hope this helps a bit.

Far be it from me not to spend someone else's money? But if all your changing is exhaust you really do not need a tuner yet. Buy some chrome or something.

Changing only exhaust to free flow by itself does not necessitate a change in tuning. Even if you where installing a High flow air cleaner (this is already there) it still wouldn't.

You can read more info at sites like www.tuneyourharley.com

At most you could hope for 8hp and most will not yield that save the tuner money until you are ready to replace cams and port heads. I know "everybody does it" but remember what Mom said about your friend and a bridge?

I agree..just changing out the mufflers does not require a tuner. I went that route at first. I bought the TTS because I plan to do the headpipe as well so I figured I would be prepared. But I did install the TTS with just the slipons and the bike ran better and cooler after that. Is it a requirement to do it when just doing mufflers---NO. Will the bike run better after you replace that lean from the factory map--YES.

Hmmm..... These things run WAY TOO LEAN BONE STOCK! You need a tuner EVEN if you did NOTHING to the bike IMO! So based on that, of course you need a tuner for that exhaust change!!! ;)

The headpipe will still come under the "single Exhaust" upgrade.

The lean mixture is a horse of another color. Definitely agree with the need to re-tune to change the A/R ratio to run cooler and also improve performance.

I think the TTS is a great product and it was in the top 2 choices for me. I plan on using the SEST as the data module is a lot easier to take on your bile then a laptop. I'll reserve that purchase until they release heated wide band O2 sensors. nightrider is due to release their XIEDS for the 2010 any time now. they are plug and play to reduce heat by changing the A?R across the closed loop operationand can be unplugged in minutes for warranty.

Seems more convenient than having to reprogram the bike to go to the dealer for service? My concer is I frequently go 400 or 500 miles and will not always have the tuner with me to go back to stock tune.

It seems the TTS Mastertune has taken the lead in the past year.  That's what I'll be going with before spring. :2vrolijk_21:

I believe there was a comparison a few weeks ago with Mastertune and SSERT, their capabilities and subtle differences. I don't know how to find the link here, but the two software systems are very similar (of course!) and I believe that if a good dyno tech can use one, he can use the other. Dealers will of course push their own product.
MY personal preference is the TTS, it does what I want, and I am comfortable with it. Other riders are just as comfortable with the PC, IED's, etc, etc.
Nice to have such a broad choice to tune your bike.
This, of course, is JMHO!

Gents,

I am a little behind and needed to make a quick decision on pipes (true duals), tuner, etc.  I called Jamie at Fuel Moto and he told me most people were making this harder than it needed to be.  He recommended the PC-V with auto-tune (with replacement sensors) and run a set of 2009 true duals.  I chose the BUB 7's for quality and sound.

Let me know if any of you all think this is an issue other than having to take it off for warranty work.  Our Harley dealer is pretty good about looking the other way.

this suggestion should tune itself with little or no intervention. The PC-V is easy to remove in the event of a warranty issue.

The True Duals suggestion is popular but in general the lowest performance as pipes go?The true Duals move the pipes back to the pre 2009 location bringing the heat back to the passenger foot peg area.

You may want to consider Bubs new TDX system has the Duals but with the crossover. Also moves the pipes away from the passengers ankle if you ride 2 up.

Wheelsnkeels,

Thanks, I weighed my options and I really like the traditional look and sound.  I have an 07 and the heat wasnt an issue for me and my passenger never complained.

If I dont like it, I can always change.

I will keep you all posted.  I will be in Clarksville, Indiana for Turkey Day and Xmas.  Maybe we can meet up for lunch and a ride if the weather holds...but I doubt mother nature will be that kind.

The wideband 02 sensors for the PC-V needs 18mm threads, right?
The PC-V sensors are pretty dang large (so I hear).

I was at PC-V training last month and at that time they did not have the 2010 heated O2 sensors
