Kuryakyn Mark IV highway pegs
« on: March 26, 2006, 09:18:32 PM »

Aparently this is kuryakyn's answer to highway pegs for our bikes... the pics they have suck but I think I will be the test pilot... any thoughts on them good or bad?

Thanks for the heads up on this one tune. I was going to get the mark III and modify the support to fit the alleron board before reading there was going to be a option for our bikes.

I have been using the Kuryakyn mustache bar with the duece style alleron pegs for over a year and like the look but the pegs are just too high for long riding. The offsets I installed help but hurt the look of the bar.

Maybe the mark IV is the answer. Your right about the pic, its hard to see if they fold up and where the adustment is.

tx, they have nothing on them yet, and I am really concerned about the spoiler... I called and their clueless about it, so this tells me we may not want to get too excited yet...Kuryakyn support is the worst I have ever dealt with.. They said if I ordered direct and they didnt fit they would credit my card immediately. I'm still considering HD forwards...

I may end up going with Harley's new mustache bar.  I didn't even think about the spoiler.

Thanks for all the info on the Mark IV Tune, I think your right about the spoiler being a problem.

I may have to go back to the idea of hacking the Mark III to fit the Alleron boards.

The Kuryukun ERGO Gaurd with fold out highway pegs will fit an 05 CVO, not sure about 06 but seems it should, as far as I know its still the same frame. You will have to change out the footboards too and I think most are doing this anyhowe since they scrape alot in the twisties.

Thanks Tuned.  Interesting highway bars, I like the look, mounting looks a bit light, have you seen these up close?

Saw these last year at the Chicago motorcycle show. I liked the adjustability but the billet bracket and the pegs looked out of place next to the Alleron boards. Just my opinion mind you but I liked the look of the Kuryakyn mustache bar with the alleron duece pegs better.

Are you certain about Kuryakyn Ergo Guard fitting?? That's the first engine guard that I purchased. When my husband went to put it on it hit the nose of the footboards, couldn't get it anywhere near where it needed to be to bolt it on at the bottom. Would have to move the footboards back an inch or have gotten shorter footboards to make it fit. Took it back to my dealer and got the Lindy-Linbar Mustach bar. It fits fine, a little close to the nose of the boards. But not close enough to touch or cause any rattleing or anything. :) Sandy

does anyone know if kuryakyn has come up with highway pegs for the 06, the web site still shows that the mark III & IV are excluded for the SE. this is the only option I will consider since all the crash bars and mustache bars are too high.

They have nothing EAGLE, but the link to GRANDPAS that I left above is worth a look, They now offer a Bar that takes the Aileron Pegs.

tunedse2, im not sure which ones are you refering to the adjustable highway bars

or the Floorboard Mount Cruise Arm

i really would only consider the floorboard mount because they are much lower than the other bars. and if i have to have my legs way up in the air i might as well just put them up on the handle bars, (indian larry style)

Hey Eagle1,

I am going to put crash bars on mine now that this will be my second bike and my wife will probably ride it when we ride together, going to kill me to put crash bars on.

The reason for the post, I was going to put the Kuriakyn markIII setup on with the alleron pegs. I am of the opinion that the seeg boards look awesome but I need a forward peg for stretching out on long rides. My experience with using a mustache bar is it is too high, the markIII setup lets you extend your legs low where you want them it also lets you extend out somewhat. I was going to make my own stiffener supports for the seeg boards as the standard Kuriakyn markIII brackets will not work on the seeg boards out of the box. I have abandoned this but I think if I was not putting the crash bars on mine it would certainly be my choice for forward pegs.

Hope this helps by confusing you with another option Eagle

I thought of doing this as well, but (no diss to you) they looked  a little too plain and a little weak, do you know if someone makes chrome billet forward controls that look more custom and heavy duty, remember money is no object when spent on my cvo  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

The HD Billet Controls I think look really hearty... Stock on the Thunder Mountain Choppers if you want to see them on a bike...

I do not want to create a controversy here but my opinion is to keep the footboards and use the markIII setup. I have driven bikes with forward controls and I agree they are nice. In this case tho I personally believe one of the items that separate the 04- 05 sefb

I recently installed Mark IV's on my 05 FLSTFSE. The "crossbar" which supports the Hwy pegs using a fat chrome-cross-bar runs right through the area of the spoiler. I had already changed out the stock buckshot floorboards for HD Flame floorboards. Had to change the floorboard support as well.

With that already behind me, the install only left the question: What to sacrifice the spoiler or the chrome cross support. According to tech support at Kuryakyn there is no solution: give up the spoiler. Now, even though the spoiler is chrome plastic, it still looked so great I wasn't willing to give it up. So, I didn't.

I cut away (fabricated, modified: whatever. If my brother Aussie can do stuff, so can I !!) and made the spoiler clip right on to the chrome-cross-bar. Took a minimum amount of time and I am thinkin' about having a real chrome spoiler made from this cut away model.

The Pictures are coming, give me a few to download.....

Left Side Mod note: the gap that the spoiler has between chrome bar and spoiler is to show the cut out size. It does not have that much of a gap when fully attached.

Looking real good kona, why do you want to go to sheet metal & chrome? that would be a lot of work & expence for not much gain. The plastic chrome still looks OK.

Cheers

Yes, I think I would leave it as is.  Looks great.  What you could do is remove the spoiler and make a template for both sides of the actual cutout size.  Photograph and post that.  Then a guy could print it out and lay it over the chrome spoiler and cut it out.

My friends are the best. I swear...Aussie and Taildragger, thanks. I get much more than HD emotional support when I started interacting with you two guys. So, thanks.

I believe the only reason to go to a "final chrome piece" is the fatigue factor on the plastic. I think the biggest percentage of grime, inpact of rocks and road junk hit right there on the spoiler. It's a magnet for liquid garbage and bugs as well. I'm hoping a sheetmetal / chrome spoiler made from a template might be of interest to some of us too. Ya never know.

Thanks for lookin' at my latest guys,

Mike K.

kona, wow looks great [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] and its where the highway pegs should be nice and low. so let me know if i got this straight, did you have to change out the stock buckshot floorboards and the supports to make this all work with the crossbar.

Again looking real good man  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Thanks EAGLE1. Yes, but I didn't change out the floorboard supports for the crossbar, I did it for the Flame floorboards which don't line up with the buckshot. I took advantage of this by getting

Kona, that looks great... what did you cut that plastic with? and is there any peeling or did it melt at all from heat?  Thanks for an outstanding idea thats the end of a very long lived dilema..

Dam, nice work.  Exactly what I want to do.  Do you think this will work leaving the stock floorboards in place?  I wasn't sure if they protruded foward more than the ones you put on.

Thaqt really looks just great.

In all honesty, I couldn't tell you if the stock floorboards will do the same thing. The experts at Kuryakyn told me recently their Mark IV product would not fit with the stock boards. I don't see why, but I don't have the stock boards anymore. I sold them right after replacing them with the HD boards. Sorry.

I just mounted the Mark IV's on my 2006 FBSE2, using button head bolts put in from the inside out, instead of the supplied hardware, then gently wroked the under spoiler back on, didn't use the cross member but don't see why I would need to since I'm only going to be supporting my legs on the pegs and not standing on them. I'll post some pictures when I take some.
Thank you guys for all the insight and suggestions, it was a great help in trying to decide what to use on my Boy.
I also have the stock shotgun floorboards and don't see any problems.
