Title: Windshield Bag
Post by: Foot Loose on January 19, 2014, 12:55:35 PM
Bought the Softail Deluxe.  Don't have it home yet, but trying to figure out if a windshield bag can be attached.  Any help?

If you look at my pics you will see I mounted it on the back of the bike on the back rest bar. I have had the same bag on all 4 of my last bikes. If you need more pics let me know I will post.

Bought the bag at Lake George years ago,

I think HD has them also that will work JUST TAKE THE 2 STRAPS AND RUN THEM TO THE REAR BACKREST.

I tied a HD P/N 91773-85 below my headlight to the driving light bar on two Softtail Deluxes. Used black nylon ties through the two leather strap attachment slots on the backside of the bag. Keeps air from blowing up from below into your face, a bonus in cool weather. Remove when hot if desired. Engine still cools just fine.

Most any bag that style will fit there. Some are hard and round, this one is soft and flattens out some to fit in the frame/fork cavity. There's 3" of air space below it and the fender. I put two-piece velcro patches between the rear of the bag and the forks to prevent movement and scratching.

What's it good for? Looks, covers the ugly bottom to the triple-tree, carrying stuff that can afford to be stolen (I put my orange HD folding tool deal in there to keep it from blowing around), and blocking the updraft from that area that tends to hit chest high and blow dirt into the eyes. As noted, it's easy to remove when hot out and a cooling draft's wanted.

I had no cooling issues with the last bike install per the oil temp gauge on the dipstick.
