Chip/Jorge,
Thanks for posting the pics and glad to see everyone having a good time. I can only imagine the heat there because it's hot as all get out here. Heat index was in the triple digits today, and humidity was murder. Stay safe, cool, hydrated, and keep the pictures coming. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the pictures Jorge and Chip. It looks like everyone is having a great time. I really hate that we had to miss this one, but we're looking forward to the next. We were thinking about getting up this morning and meeting everyone at the Smith House for lunch and then one night at CHL, but just too much going on here to break away. Really missing those great times with everyone. Stay safe and by all means, stay well hydrated in this outrageous heat! We're looking at 100 degrees here today in the shade, and I know the mountains will only shave a few degrees off of that.

Hey guys, Vgirl here. Something came up at home and I left early this morning. So, I'll be uploading pics shortly. Stay tuned...
Plus, I suck at twisties! Poor Jock!!! Somehow he was appointed babysitter this week and I felt horrible for him always waiting on me. There are some disadvantages to always riding alone. You never learn how to ride in a group and riding "at your pace" isn't always comfortable for others. I'm still at the bar hopper stage of my riding career (4776 miles to date) and never made it over 35mph on the Dragon. Wasn't scared of falling over this time, but everyone was well rested by the time I got there. But hey, I had my personal photographer since Jock would wait up on me and took photos of me riding when I finally got there!
Nancy is a bad woman! Dang, you should have seen here scraping pipes all the way through the dragon. Chip and her passed me...Chip on an inside curve and Nancy followed on an outside curve shooting sparks the whole time. Scared the hell out of me, but God can she ride!!!
Anyway, here are pics....

And that was about the time I realized I had put my helmet down at the pumps and forgot to pick it back up. I went to get it...gone. No one turned it in. Someone got themself a plain-jane black, modular full-face helmet. I felt like a complete idiot!!! And they don't sell helmets at Deal's Gap. And they didn't have any at all in lost and found! So I bought myself a Tail of the Dragon doo-rag and pretended it was a helmet. I had to ride without a helmet for 20 miles to the closest shop that sold them. It worked. The park police waved me by at an accident. Then after I paid $55 for the ugliest helmet I've ever seen and $15 for cheapie glasses, we pulled out and passed a cop immediately!
Actually, I was having idiot-attacks all day long!
I have to say THANKS TO JOCK!!! OMG, I would not have survived without him. We took a left-hand turn off the highway onto a two-lane road with orange barrels and a sign that said, "LOOSE GRAVEL." Ok, I've only been in gravel ONCE in Morgantown, WV at WV Bike Week...freshly dumped #2 (I think). I pulled over a hump into it and my bike sunk and it was like a light went off in my head as I thought, "Oh crap, I don't know how to ride in gravel!" I panicked, grabbed too much front brakes and had a freshly dumped Vrod. Nearly broke my d@mn leg holding it off the ground until the calvary could get off his bike and keep it from hitting the ground! So, as you can imagine, Miss Amatuer Rider almost immediately started hyperventilating. I let Jock get in front of me about at my line of sight. I watched him and never once looked down! That route sucked!!! THE ENTIRE WAY! Here's some of the signs I saw and my heart skipped a beat with every one:
ROAD WORK AHEAD
LOOSE GRAVEL
BROKEN PAVEMENT
UNEVEN PAVEMENT
and it ended with another
LOOSE GRAVEL
And the one that really freaked me out but there was no sign for it. Actually, wait! Yes, there was! :stop:
It was a man with a stop sign that held Jock and me up. Then the next several miles was a road covered in debris, gravel and sand. The sand was so thick in the curves that you couldn't see the pavement underneath. All were first for me! I was thinking, " :zwtf: Is this teach TheVgirl how to ride in diverse road conditions day?" Oh and of course, at the end of the day, as I was reflecting upon that thought....RAIN!!!
Whoever appointed Jock babysitter needs to apologize to the poor guy! He is an excellent coach but I know it was driving him crazy! I haven't rode in the last year. Actually, I put 200 miles on the bike two weeks ago going down to Killer Creek H-D and back. On the way back, the bolt that holds the foot brake pedal to the end of the rod came out, broke or just disappeared! As I was coming down the exit ramp and put on the brake, the pedal just fell over and was hanging upside down. I slid between the lanes of traffic and carefully used the front brakes trying not to do a stoppie on the wet pavement. So, I was not really ready for this trip AT ALL! So, I decided last night that I couldn't do it to the poor guy this morning and was going to skip the morning ride. Then, something urgent came up at home so I left the lodge around 10 this morning to come home. That ride was a piece of cake compared to yesterday. I was home in less time than it would have taken me to get from the lodge to Dahlonega! I STINK! JC, we might want to rethink me coming over for the NorCal group ride. I don't think I'm ready, bud! Talk to Jock. I SUCK!!!
OK, BACK TO THE PICS!

And thanks Pinky for insisting I get a possum. He has one and Justin put the other one on his rearview mirror in his car!
Same with the helmet! But it's already "toast." The G-man left it on the sofa downstairs and Biscuit already chewed it up! Not having good luck with helmets. It has just become an extra toy helmet!

There were no problems...Just learning experiences! Nothing you can't fix with a cell phone and a credit card as Chuck put it. We'll see how well I'm doing after the next 4776 miles. If I'm still screwing up at that time then we'll know I need to hang up my chaps! But OMG it was hot and sticky! Whew!! I've already popped a Sam Adam's Summer Ale and turned up the AC.
Checked on the photos. Looks like Killboy will have them up tomorrow, Zeefoto will post them by Wednesday and couldn't tell from US129photos.
Have a great weekend guys and gals!! Have a safe trip home! Kathy, I hope you guys enjoy visiting your family in North Georgia. Not a whole lot of relief from the heat this week.

Was like riding with a blow dryer on your face set on high heat for 4 hours.
But we would go back tommorrow if work wasn't calling.

Nancy and I want to thank everyone for coming and a special thanks to Chuck and Pinky for being the best ride leaders a group could ask for!
We had a blast.
Plus, I got my hat, shirt and polish!
Here's the mileage count for a great weekend!

What can I say? :nixweiss: The great folks at Copperhead Lodge do everything they can to make our stay comfortable as well as educational. They even went as far as to hire a resident snapping turtle to come up and lay her eggs right up next to the lodge.

Chuck, I'll let you explain this one... :confused5: ;D
That's it for me, Ilene took over a hundred pics but I'm sure everyone is bored by now. It was a great gathering and we can't wait until the next one.
I hope everyone that hasn't reported making in safe will let us know when they do and thankful that all that have made it home safely.
Bob
Linda took 309. I'm still reading page 11. There's gonna be a lot of posting tonight.
-
Got home this afternoon about 2:30.
Was like riding with a blow dryer on your face set on high heat for 4 hours.
But we would go back tommorrow if work wasn't calling.
Met a bunch of new friends and had the chance to see a lot of old friends.
Nancy and I want to thank everyone for coming and a special thanks to Chuck and Pinky for being the best ride leaders a group could ask for!
We had a blast.
Plus, I got my hat, shirt and polish!
Here's the mileage count for a great weekend!
your description is right on ~ face blown with a hair dryer ~ but a wonderful weekend!!!!!
-
Well the SERG earned it's Dragon this weekend!
-
We all gave Jock $1 to keep an eye on the bikes when we went inside.
:indian_chief:
And I needed that dollar later...Thanks Gang...

Checking out Jock's ride:
-
Crossing over the Savannah River on an EBF road towards Augusta & you'll find this rest stop. They were very nice & even had free Coke.
-
Really, free Cokes!
-
Vrod's only carry 3.6 gallons of fuel. That translates into a lot of stops.
-
Lake Hartwell had water in it.
-
We meet up w/ Tommy & Judy @ Augusta HD & head North. Tommy somehow knew of some good country cooking:
-
The place didn't look like much from outside, but lunch was good!
-
Minnie Pearl look
-
Got to the Lodge & needed to clean before dinner
-
Martha, Jorge, HogBreath, TBone
-
Me, MJZ, & Jock
-
President Chithead
-
These are for Hotrodsticher. Our fearless road captain, Chief is also an awesome crew chief. He called while we were at dinner and told me the pit was open & get my but in gear:
-
On the jack w/ saddlebags off
-
No shock!
-
Let's see... which way is up?
-
Don't worry AJ, I know what I'm doing ;)
-
Of course, Mohota, Ken, & Bob had to give poor Chief advise
-
Look Sid, they fit!
-
Everyone seemed to be getting in on the fun. Ileen was smiling all weekend.
-
Almost finished
-
Meanwhile the rest of the crew was in the lodge swilling
-
I had to beg, but Nancy finally turned around:
Nancy, Ilene, Linda, Judy, Vgirl, Jude
-
Breakfast the next morning
-
CVO motto: Ride to eat, eat to ride?
-
Ken: "AJ watch out for the right sweepers"
-
My riding buddy
-
If Thumper only knew what he would be in for
-
Judy & Tommy, our other riding companions to & from CHL
-
I now know the real reason why Nancy rides her own bike... she doesn't like to sit still on the back
-
Chip could only take so much of my brake light
-
George & I are both Gemini. I only hope I look as good as him

-
Fuel stop
-
Good shot of Bob & Ilene
-
Chuck, is this road on the GPS route? I'm sooo lost
-
Chip & Nancy were not happy with my braking. They weren't behind me long.
-
We had 13 bikes on this ride
-
They finally got around me
-
I sped up enough to get this one
-
Miker & schmoopy
-
This was pre-ticket
-
I think V mentioned the gravel on the way to the Dragon
-
Man those Vrods need fuel
-
Linda takes some good shots!

AJ, Looks like you all had fun...nice pictures! :2vrolijk_21:

Great pictures everyone, :2vrolijk_21: but no one got one of Mike receiving his "Reward Certificate Warning". :confused5: :drink:

Great pics AJ...thanks for sharing. I'm envious of all of you ... that part of the country is perfect for riding. Virtually every road is a good one.

Bad Chip and Nancy! I bet it did scare the crap out of you. It should have been the faster ones in front and the slower in the back. Brian is always up front with the fast group. That was wonderful of Jock to ride along with you to be sure you were ok.

Jock took Vgirl about 20 minutes ahead of everyone else when we started our trek up the Dragon. And me, Nancy, Tommy and Ken were just following Chuck. So it should be "Bad Chuck" not us! We caught up with the Vrods four or five curves before the overlook which is barely getting started up the hill.
Your right, Jock is wonderful and he can ride the heck out of that Vrod!
Remember, that new Cherry needs a Dragon sticker!
Maggie Valley would be a perfect time.
:2vrolijk_21:
(Hows that for throwing Chuck under the bus!)
-
That's because the only 2 behind him were me and Jorge and we were right on his bumper. We weren't about to stop and get written up too. Had we known it was going to be a warning we'd have pulled right in with him. Of course we did wave as we passed. ;D
Ohhhh..... I see, monkey see monkey do, but no monkey stop. :D Good thinking. :2vrolijk_21:
Mike ..... watch your back. :-\

Hey all, just got in from Gulf Hammock...1500 miles round trip. Thanks for the fellowship and fun...
Dave, I was a victim of circumstance! I swear! ...There was no way for me go fast, period...
Lots of nice yellow and white lines up there!

Calm down, guys!! It's water under the bridge. Let's not ruin a perfect trip by pointing fingers. I was the one riding slow...no one else to blame! 'Nuf Said!!!
NOW ON ANOTHER NOTE...
Where do I start a thread to see who is interested in an Experienced Ride Skills Course just like the ones needed on the Dragon! Talked the coordinator at Earl Small and Cartersville, all we need is 6 folks at $75 a pop for a 6-hour course. They'll schedule it for a time that fits our needs - a Sunday that they are not teaching the Basic Riding Course or early one weekday for 6 hours or two weekday evenings for 3 hours each to make 6 hours. The class will be held at Cartersville Harley-Davidson. That is 30 minutes from my house. If we have 6 people interested, anyone is welcome to stay here. I have a fairly big house with 6 bedrooms with 3 single beds and 2 double/queen beds plus a queen size sleeper sofa in the downstairs family room and an inflatable bed in the playroom. There are guest baths plus a kitchen and family room upstairs and downstairs. It's not the Ritz but comfortable and free if anyone wants to join in on the class. PM me and I'll send you the flyer until I hear back from fired00d as to where to post it.
Oh yea, the instructor is a former MMA racer and been teaching for 30 years just in case you're wondering.

Just wanted to say that I was looking closer this evening at Nancy's Dragon pictures on KillBoy and in two of them you can see the sparks flying off from grinding parts.

So I checked the bike and damn, there's a few hundred dollars of chrome gone.

Chip,
We were actually just discussing this. she needs the dates (which we have) so she can try and take the time off from work. She teaches 4th grade and will only be back to school for about one month at that time. I am signed up in my mind!! Unless something crazy happens we will be there. I will just have to find a room somewhere. I guess I could go ahead and reserve one now and cancel later if I absolutely had to.
Heres the first of my photos...........

No poor Jock nor a babysitter...I have a few simple codes when I ride in a group. One of them is I am responsible for the rider behind me. This is a personal choice and I choose where to ride in the pack. It was my choice and my pleasure and your skills will be developed if you practice them.
Sorry you had to go...Until next time...Be Safe

Sounds like a great time.....I cannot wait to get down there, trying to get a group together......
That is the hardest thing keeping the group together and not infringe on anyone driving style.....
I like it fast and twisty (not sport bike style) Ultra style, Lazy lay overs swinging in a rhythmic pattern left to right.
I arranged a group ride up in the Poconos couple of weeks ago and because I do not want anyone to ride past their capability I was riding 30 - 50 through the twisties.......and I thought I was doing great (mild ride) till I stopped to let the rest catch up.
To my surprise I found out that my easy/lazy ride was angering a few in the back.
I went directly to the back and stayed there to keep the troupes happy.
I never would have thought my lead was aggressive at all.....to my dismay. Well I will stay in the back for a couple weeks.
Vgirl to bad not in PA all of the courses MSF are free and the experienced rider course is not bad, but not challenging enough, so a private instructor would be appropriate......Good luck
The one rule we do have is no one gets left behind.......just plain rude!

The above in red might not been totally your fault. :nixweiss: What usually happens in group rides is the "accordion" effect. As riders slow down/speed up the ones at the back of the pack have to compensate more. The larger the group the worse the effect.

So it is time for an oil change on the SERG and Nancy's Classic.
Took these pictures while hers was on the lift.
Note the "tang" on the kickstand.
It has been scraped enough that it's almost sharp.
Wasn't like that before we left home.
-
People ask if the center stand drags in cornering.
Ridden hard, , , , Yes they will, , , especially on the dragon with Nancy twisting the throttle.
Thought about taking it off but due to it's shape it's a good early warning alert that metal is leaving the bike.
:2vrolijk_21:
-
The other side.
-
And yes this is way off topic but I took this picture when I moved the Frontier off the lift to put Nancy's bike on.
The amazing thing is the grass in the picture was very green when we left for CHL last Thursday.
I can see another brown grass summer coming.

Jock,
Saw your pics in the gallery! Great photos! Thanks for posting them. You'll have to email me all the rest. God knows you had plenty of opportunity to take several while I was catching up. Your pics by all three photographers were great. Does your camera bag bother you at all while riding?
The ride home was so quick and easy it was almost scary. It took 2 hours to get there and an hour and half to get home. Amazing how straight it seemed after a weekend in the other corner of the state! Seems rather flat!!!! Thanks for looking out for me. I know I would have never made it through the gravel, broken pavement, and sand (where the heck did that come from) if I had not watched you ride through it in front of me!!!
JC gave me a week to make the decision about Northern Cal. Hard choice...

V,
98% of the pics I took will be posted in the gallery when I finish them which should be in the next 36 hours. I do have a couple of you that I did not post because I was unpleased with the framing. I will email them to you and you can decide. As for the camera bag, on the camera I carry on rides...NO, but my Nikon YES.
Glad to see that the do-rag is being enjoyed.

Hey Jock,
I just looked through the photo gallery. GREAt job on the pictures man!

I guess I'll take that explanation, you all were just following the leader - bad Chuck!
Ok, I'll do the dragon one more time just so the Cherry can get the sticker.
-
Nevermind, found the links in his Sig. ;)

Jock just went thru your pictures, they were good. I really liked the ones with the big Rooster. Only one problem you might have told everyone you were looking for eggs, what were you really doing Roosters do not lay eggs ;D DO tell

Thanks Kathy
I think maybe a ladies only trip to the Dragon may be an ideal ride during Maggie Valley.
Could be you, Nancy, Mrs. We, Helen, Martha, Judy and whoever wanted to do the ride.
That would be very cool!
Think about it!
:2vrolijk_21:
I have to retract that part about bad Chuck. (it really is good Chuck)
We had a blast following him and Pinky all weekend!
;D

Great pics everyone! It was a very nice gathering! Looking forward to doing it again... :bananarock:

That must be one of those "peg-leg grasshopper" things. ;)
Wish I could remember it but since I was already a few into the rum, I forgot it while I was still laughing at it. ???
-
I just want it to be known to those who weren't there that and may not know it, but Chip made a "Bad Chuck" comment in jest and just having fun. I knew it, but understand that others may not know he was just joking.
There was no "Bad Chuck". Chuck didn't pass anyone on the ride. :2vrolijk_21:

WRONG
We's was behind you all the time.
You passed a few cars, van and a truck that were going slow.
But no site members.
Wait!
You did pass everyone when you fell behind to take pictures.
So bottom line, the bad Chuck label was just me picking on you.
You are really "Good Chuck" in our book!

you ok now?

Hey, I never passed anyone, even had to pull over and wave a couple of 10 speed bicyclers past me and we were going uphill at the time. It did kind of piss me off when the old lady power walking kept yelling at me "on your left, move over!' Then when I let her by, she flipped me off. ;D

You know Silver-Black...Always making trouble...He suggested that HogBreath and I run forward in sign language. I was ready for a cool down by air and took off without HogBreath knowing it. We knew that Helen was the designation so off we went...Not sure about the speed but I know it was over 100mph given the wobble I get in that riding position.
As HogBreath and I discussed those Rods are just fun to ride and made to have some speed behind them
LOVE IT!
