For almost a decade now members from all around the country have been attending an East Coast Gathering held in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. To my knowledge the first one was held back in 2004 as a result of the efforts of then 103tHunDer now 110tHunDer. What no one knew at the time was that this small gathering of like minded individuals (a book of 15 rooms was held at the motel) would grow into what it has become today. A tradition!
The Maggie Valley Originals 103tHunDer (Brian) and 04hd103 (Tommy) would continue the tradition for many years to come and a brotherhood was born. Over the years Brian would continue the tradition and others would step up and step in to carry it on. This event represents yet another example of how this web site has grown into a brotherhood for some many individuals.
As we begin this year’s Maggie Valley Gathering I wanted to thank everyone that has brought it to this point and those that have placed there effort into this year’s Gathering.
A thank you to all of you that have posted photographs that I have taken from to share here.
I encourage you to share your own 2012 Maggie Valley photographs and experiences here so that others can understand what they may be missing by not attending a gathering East Coast, West Coast or No Coast!

Thought I'd go ahead and post a few pics I've taken already. Left Memphis Saturday and lucky for my Buddy Mike and me, it was a Tennessee Vol home game and we saw orange all the way to Morristown Tn which was our first nights destination. Nice days ride and when we got in the room and was watching the game I think half the people we saw on TV we recognized that we passed them on I40! :D Stopped at the Colboch HD in Morristown TN. Really nice dealership...huge! Even thought I saw Barney Fife...but it wasn't. Checked into hotel and called it a night.
Got up Sunday and made our way to Switzerland Inn just south of Spruce Pine NC. Nice twisty roads and bout a 2hr ride. When we got up to hotel we could barely see in front of your face as the fog was so thick. Pulled in to check into room and wait on Tommy and Judy to get in.
Yesterday was a wash out as it will be today. Tommy and I went into town yesterday in between storms to get some necessary supplies we were running out of. ::) Wasn't bad when we got off the Parkway below the fog and clouds. Last night could hear it rain steady all night...woke up this morning and fog actually was down enough that I could see we are on a mountain and we do have a mountain view room! :2vrolijk_21:
It don't matter what the weather does, it's been a gas. Laughed so hard I was crying too many times to count. Rest of week is suppose to be awesome and look forward to seeing ya'll in MV. Prayers being sent to those who will be making there way in. Love ya'll and God Bless!

Judy and I left Augusta Sunday to meet JR and Mike in Little Switzerland NC. We rode in good weather until we got about 10 miles from our destination then the rain and fog set in.

Almost no riding yesterday, JR and I did run down the mountain for supplies. Rest of the day was puzzles, eating, sleeping and drinking!

Note to self, save a weeks vacation for this event next year. We do an Avy GTG in St. Louis every Labor Day weekend so I know how fun an annual meet can be. Keeps the pix coming.

I didn't take many pics this year, mostly because everybody else had it covered, or I was too busy riding in the beautiful weather we had. But here's a few:
First day, Brian (110thunder) led a group of us from MV over to Franklin, NC, then up to Highlands, NC for a bite to eat. The road up to Highlands is a nice ride, and one of the pulloffs is a nice waterfall that you can drive behind if you want to. I don't think anybody wanted to get their scoot wet...

Next stop was just up the road a bit to downtown Highlands. I think somebody needed to use the bathroom after standing by the waterfall all that time... :nixweiss: ;) Plus, somebody wanted some fudge and others hung out talking to passerby's who were admiring the bikes parked along the street. Highlands is a beautiful little town with some neat shops and other attractions nearby. It's a great place to take your lady if she wants to do a little windowshopping. There's several good places to eat as well.

We then left downtown and backtracked a mile or so to a great BBQ joint, had lunch, then rode down into North Georgia along some roads we had traveled on prior trips to MV. When the horses started heading for the barn in MV, the ride was quite "spirited", to say the least. Let's just say that one would need to be an experienced rider to run with these particular dawgs... 8)

The next day was Friday, so some of the same group, and a few exchanges, rode over to the HD dealership in Asheville. It's a nice store and we talked to at least one CVO owner that might show up later on the site.

Next stop, after riding up some great roads to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway, was Mt. Mitchell State Park. Mt. Mitchell is the highest point East of the Mississippi, at 6683'. It's somewhat unusual to have clear weather on top, so it was a great visit to the top of the mountain. There's a nice parking lot, then you walk a paved trail up to an observation tower. There's also a pretty good restaurant there, though we were headed to Bonnie and Clyde's for a Cheeseburger/Cheesburger, so passed on stopping there.

It was absolutely fine with me when Pete went by me and got behind you...my bike was snorting and stomping it's feet wanting to run free too :2vrolijk_21: But, it's a damn good thing no local cars were on patrol, though they would have had a hard time keeping up... :huepfenlol2: :nervous:

You can't ride ALL the great roads down there in one trip! I've been going there for ten years and rode roads I'd never been on before every trip. The Dragon is just 11 of many, many great miles of roads in that region. Judy will find no shortage of excuses to keep going back! :2vrolijk_21:

Agreed...I can see that happening...I went on a lot of good roads and was only there 2 days!!!!

Only once this trip on the Cherahala and Dragon. But I try and do both of those at least once while there.
Interesting question I got coming back to MV on the Cherahala.
Having done all the nice roads out to the Dragon (19 all the way to 28), side rides to Fontana and Cheoah Dams, little diversion to Bald River Falls and a quick pit stop at one of the bunkers on the Skyway, I was Q'd - "what is the quickest, shortest, less curvy way back to the hotel?" :oops:
"Ah - there ain't no shortcuts in the western mountains of NC!"
Glad my GPS was working at the time to show the route home :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
