Yes, that is wrong.  It displays the speed from the same source as the speedo on the dash, that being the speed sensor. 

While the GPS could display GPS calculated speed easy enough, it doesn't.  They didn't add that capability to the user interface.  And the vehicle cannot loose it's speed display just because you are in a tunnel or in the urban jungle.

You are correct. Speedo and GPS screen come from the same source, VSS. They will read identical numbers until 120 MPH. After that the analog hits the peg and the digital continues to rise. I have seen 126 MPH on the digital.   ;D

That was on asphault sitting straight up racing racing my buddy on this 190 HP monster. After 3 miles I was in front. I wear him out every time.
That bike will do a legit 150, but not all day.  I can sit on 120 for miles. ;D

Just over 500 miles on the bike.  It had a full tank when I bought it so I didn't calculate that one, but the next two top offs showed 41.52 and 41.29. Not too bad for bone stock, but not enough mileage yet to trend it.
