FXR2 - FXR3 STD.EQUIPT.

ARCHIVE FROM 1998

Harley is in a unique position this year. An assembly line at their York, PA, plant that once produced Rotax-powered British military motorcycles has opened up (the contract with the British military expired this year), and H-D is thinking of ways to use this line. Not large enough to pump out enough Big Twins to help offset demand, the line looks like a great place to produce limited edition specialty motorcycles, say 900 or so a year. Essentially the FXR2 and FXR3 are experiments. If they sell well and are profitable, Harley may continue with different special edition models. Perhaps a Dyna Glide Sport next year?

The FXR2 and FXR3 offer the popular FXR frame housing an Evo motor within the three-point rubber mounting, as well as a large number of Genuine Harley accessories that H-D claims would make the bikes cost thousands more if added separately. The FXR2 comes with a Badlander seat, a mini-rail sissy bar, new chrome-plated fork sliders, and a chrome swingarm. The FXR3 comes with new accessories like custom cast wheels and matching five-spoke floating rotors and rear belt sprocket. Both the FXRs will offer plenty of chrome, over 23 different chrome accents added throughout. The FXR2 comes in factory variants of red and blue. The FXR3 is emblazoned with flames over blue and green paint schemes.

FXR fans be forewarned: The Motor Company plans to make only 900 of each and that's it, never more for the venerable FXR frame. Fin, Finito, Nie Wiede. The suggested retail price for the FXR2 is $16,995. Suggested retail price for the FXR3 is $17,995. If you're interested fill out that credit application today because they won't be around tomorrow.
