Whooo Hoooo, Just brought home my new FXDSE :-)
« on: April 30, 2007, 07:06:58 PM »

I just brought home my new bike yesterday after waiting for seven months!  It was worth the wait, I LOVE it!!  :orange: I have a problem though that my hands are sore today after riding yesterday, especially the clutch hand.  Is there something I can install to make the clutch easier to pull in?  My old bike had an 'easy clutch' installed in it, but I don't know that I can install it on this bike as it already has a hydraulic clutch?   Or is there something that can be done to narrow the space between the clutch and the grip so I don't have to stretch so far to pull in the clutch?  Thanks!

fxdlgrl,  Are the handlebars too forward for you?  Do you need to have something to pull them back to you?  I thought my clutch was stiffer than the Road King was that had the easy clutch on it, but I got used to it one ride.  If there is a fix, one of these wise guys around here will have an answer quick, I am sure.  I used to work in Vancouver, live in Burnaby for a big part of my life.  Are you joining us for the Nelson CVO get together?  It is in your back yard.   :cherry:

fxdlgrl, Congrats on the new ride! You might want to search to see if the clutch\brake levers can be replaced with ones that don't curve out as much... or grow longer nails. LOL
Cheers!

You will get used to that clutch pull pretty quickly.  A few years ago I bought a Deuce and the clutch pull was killing me after the first day or two, but then I got used to it and never thought about it again.

Sweet looking scoot!

Adjust the bars back and it will make the clutch seem easier to engage.

You also will probably need a new toothbrush to get the bugs out of your teeth (due to the big grin you'll have while riding)

Sore hands may be a sign of throttle twist. This is caused by rotating  the throttle on a bike that really goes and causes you to hold on tight.  :orange: You may need to adjust your bars as others have already stated. Most likely after a few rides it will just go away. I love the look of the SE Dyna and know you will be very happy with your new bike. Welcome from Texas!

Thanks for letting me know about Nelson!  It is such a beautiful area to ride around.  I'll have to see about getting time off work.  Shouldn't be too much of a problem...  my boss has a CVO too  ;D

I bought a solo seat for the bike and am having it customized a bit so that it pushes me forward a couple more inches so hopefully the handlebars will be a bit easier to reach (also the forward controls) and will help with the sore hands!  I am picking it up today and will let you know how it works.

Thanks to everybody for the welcome and suggestions!!

Sweet scoot and gratz.  I really like the color too.  Regarding the pull and your hands hurting, along with getting used to it your forearms and grip strength will get much stronger so careful how tightly you grab...uh...um...well you know.   :P

Just noticed, silver calipers on a black motor.

Sort of like the black/silver rear bagger calipers?!

Thanks again for all the congrats!!  I am just LOVING this bike... I don't miss the lowrider at all!  This bike handles so well, shifts smoothly!!  I am still having sore hands by the end of the day though ~ but I am hoping that it is like a few people have said and that I will just have to get used to using different muscles.  Here is a picture of the seat I had done.  It is a HD Brawler, but I had it customized to move me forward...  As you can see a lot more forward  ;D  I also had the seat cut down so that I am lower to the ground and had a gel pad put in it.  The seat is really comfy now!  Just got to ride more to get the hands in shape   :cherry:

I forgot...  YES, those silver brake calipers need to be changed.  I have no idea why if they weren't chrome HD didn't at least make them black, same color as the motor :-\

The seat work did make what looks like a small and far forward seat pocket.  Comfort is what comes first of course.  But I really like that wide almost bulky look at the rear of the seat now.  Takes up space nicely and adds a little attitude.  Hope it's comfortable too.

If they blended them in better you wouldn't want to buy chrome ones. ;D

I would never notice the silver brakes on your bike, they blend in well and look good!  I actually saw your bike somewhere on this website and had to get the same pipes because yours looked so good ~ I figured we live far enough away that you wouldn't see mine and get mad  ;D  I haven't put on my pipes yet, I will get that done at the first service.  Can I bug you with a question...  Is it hard to get the oil dipstick out with those pipes on the bike?  Thanks

Nice lookin' bike, grl...

Sometimes rotating the entire clutch/switch/lever housing up a bit helps get a better grip on the lever...works on both sides of the bars, and only takes a few minutes to do.  It might give you a better purchase with your fingers.  The seat looks great on the bike.

Glad to have you here!!

Thanks...  It looked like it would be hard to get at...  I guess to save some burns we'd better start checking the oil when it's cold  :o
