Has anyone used the B&W Trailer Hitches Biker Bar? I stumbled across one mention of this and went to the website: http://www.turnoverball.com/products/motorcycle/biker-bar Not really sure how stable this would be on a long trip. I tried doing a search on the site but I only get referred to the joke section.
-
I installed one in my XtraTuff enclosed trailer this summer. I hauled my SEEG05 400 miles, 200 miles each way. My wife and I took our granddaughter to a three day camp and wanted to ride while she was there. I used no tie down straps and it stayed in place as advertised. Clamp the bar on the frame and ride into the dockin station. On my Electra Glide, the jiffy stand must be positioned above the bar which is a bit of a pain. One of the rubber pieces that is between the bar clamp and the cycle frame fell off after the third time I put it on the cycle. I called the company because I was having trouble getting the jiffy stand over the bar. They told me to positon the bar toward the back of the frame to where the tubes begin to bend outward. I mentioned that the rubber piece fell off and they wanted the bar back to inspect. A new bar arrived in the mail and I sent the other one back post paid. Good customer service in my opinion. I plan to haul the cycle to Florida at the end of December and expect no problems.

i was at a bike show a couple years ago in Reno and B&W had an Electraglide (minus fluids :-X) hanging upside down above their both with only their Hitch Bar Holding it at the bottom of the frame. I'd have to say, they hold well :2vrolijk_21:
-
Hmmm.
-
Ya, it seems like a cool concept and allows you to load additional gear in your trailer. I guess the more I get to thinking about it though, it just a single point of failure when compaired to using multiple tie downs. I certainly would like the comfort and ease of this system, but I think I'm going to stick with the tried and true straps and cinch her down.
Thanks for the input!
-
Be nice to have in the garage too.
-
Anyone give us an update on the product. Thinking of buying a trailer to haul 2 bikes and feel this my work well for having limited space.
http://www.turnoverball.com/products/motorcycle/biker-bar
-
Can't give you an update, but I will order one. No strapping, no chock I'm in.
-
Have a friend that has them in his trailer. A little tough to do alone, but cake with help. Turn you rig upside down and scoot stays put. Could be a bad thing :nixweiss:. Part that goes on bike is easy to remove.
-
I already drag ( pipes, floor boards ) from time to time. Looks like that would be an issue with these bars. But it sure makes loading up look eazy. :nixweiss:
-
Pretty slick. I'd like to see one for real. I'm assuming the bar that mounts on the bike is removed when not trailering.?
-
Watch the video on the web site.
-
Has anyone used or does anyone have a hold down called a trailer bar, found it on a site called ditch the straps . Com
-
yes,
I have been using one for years and would not trailer without it.
I have logged over 5000 miles with one and have been coast to coast, never had an issue. Less than 5 minutes to load or unload. No straps,no burn or rub marks
It's called the Biker Bar here is a u-tube vidio of it.
I bought 2 extras from a buddy when I was going to rig out another trailer, and will sell a brand new one still in the box for $250.00 plus shipping.

Merged your thread with one already existing on these... see previous posts before yours for additional information.

I just got the Biker Bar for my trailer so I can load and unload myself and no tie downs is a bonus. Just have to clamp on the bar before load and remove bar once unloaded from trailer.

The last post was from 2013. Looking to learn if anybody else has had any first hand experience with these?
Was considering a Wheeldock for the toy hauler but these things look to be much easier and I can't find any negative feedback and they have a high customer service rating on Amazon and ebay.
I did find a YouTube video that shows them loading an ultra classic in the exact same model of toy hauler that I just bought and it sure looks simple.....

While I don't have the biker bar, I have their 5-wheel hitch, turn-over ball, and headache rack and the quality is second to none. They make a very good top notch product.
 :nixweiss:

Down side to this thing is the fact that you are bolting a piece of welded together steel, that has no engineering data to support it's strength, to a piece of 1/2" plywood (in most motorcycle trailers), maybe tieing it into one crossbar made of 1/4 angle iron welded onto the frame of the trailer if the install location happens to match up with the crossmember.
Personally I do not want to tie down a 900# + motorcycle with a bracket held in by 4 bolts to a piece of plywood. Wouldn't take much impact to rip the whole thing from the floor. A strong man can beat a hole in a piece of plywood with a 16 oz hammer, so what happens when you add the other 899#s?
And before anyone comments that all trailers have motorcycle tied to plywood floor, well mine doesn't. I have e-track welded front to back on both sides of trailer to each crossmember as well as the front and rear of the trailer and a Condor thru bolted to add-in crossmembers.
I take this strength thing serious.

It comes with two 5" square plates to put on the bottom side to bolt to. But I'm thinking a steel plate welded to the frame.....what's another 50 lbs. when you're pulling a trailer that comes in loaded at 8 1/2 tons?

Wow, nice frickin rig👍. We're looking at a Spartan 300 for long trips. As to the Biker Bar, our Condors proved themselves on our run to Daytona last fall. On I-81, we hit a rather large "bump" at 65 mph, got the truck & trailer airborne, and the bikes didn't move. Scared the heck out of me.
-
Im ordering one when i get home from florida. The bike fell over today coming up 95. Checked it twice in the first 200 miles and all was good. Got to our stop for the night and she was down. Luckily nothing was broken. Right lower around the speaker wore through the paint, two scuffs in bag.
Closing the barn door after the horse got out i guess. Could have been much worse. I've used the same method for 5 years and a ton of miles with no issues. Its not if, but when.

Is that rig a Grand Design? Ive been wanting to look at them. I think they are the "new" Carriage company. I have the Carriage C-Force, Its built great but hellish heavy. 40' long with a 12' garage sure is handy though. Im grossing around 27k combined. Would love to shed a ton or two.

Going to try to get the Biker Bar installed tomorrow. It would be so much easier if the RV storage was just a tad bit closer. If I get to it tomorrow, I'll try to get some pics.
Yes, it's Grand Design Momentum 376TH. 41'4" bumper to 5th wheel pin and empty it's 15,900 lbs. Add the batteries, the solar panel, 3rd A/C option, the washer/dryer, water, clothes, ,food, dishes, motorcycle, etc. I'm thinking it's going to be real close to 20,000 lbs. 5 slide outs.

JC, that rig is insane! Just went through their website, nicer than my house... Good for you guys!

Thanks Alan.
I just found a great install video for the Biker Bar..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrVIDWwWWAg

This is the only way too Go ! I have two sets which I have used for years. Moved them from three different trailers and now into my Toy hauler for the last time. Well I hope for the last time. Once you get the mounting hardware in and adjusted they are a dream. I have traveled thousands of miles over the years and have never had one of my bikes move must less fall over. Great Product. Hurts on the wallet but in the long run worth every penny/ dollar.
-
My paint repairs either out of pocket or for my deductible will easily cover the cost of one. Im done with straps, and I- 95 sucks ass.
-
Install is done. The bike doesn't touch anything (except where the bar clamps to the frame).....room on all sides. And very easy to ride in and lock in.

With the long ramp on this model (Momentum 376TH) it's very easy to ride up in and lock it down without bottoming out at the top of the ramp. Surprisingly, it feels much more solid than I thought it would yet so easy for one person to load and unload.
Once it's loaded nothing touches the bike except where the bar clamps to the frame. Plenty of room to load and lock and then get off the bike even for 6'4".

Once the plates are bolted to the underside with four 9/16" bolts, the mount can be removed in just a minute by removing the two 5/8" bolts and leaves a flat surface to use for other purposes....

You don't even have to ride it in. I was able to just push it in the mount/lock. So much easier than messing with straps....trying not to rub paint, trying to not suppress the forks to the point you blow a seal yet tight enough the bike doesn't bounce lose, etc. etc. And....a hell of a lot quicker! :2vrolijk_21:
-
Pretty sure thats what happened to mine yesterday. Didnt compress the forks enough and the constant jerking yanked the strap from the ratchet.

Excuse the mess. On our last leg of out trip back home. Lol
-
Really sorry that happened. When those things happen and make their mark, it's always way more painful to the owner than it looks to others. It's kind of like going down....there's two groups, those that have and those that will. Thankfully, you didn't do any more damage than that cuz we've seen the bad luck of a few others on this forum.
You have the full size garage in your TH. I can see with this mount where it's straight up and down and no straps where you'll have a lot more "usuable" space that with the traditional tie down type.
-
I also have the B&W on my open trailer ..love it

Got an estimate today from the moco. 2k for bag and speaker enclosure installed.
My son is ppg certified. He shot the antique gunstock with their camera to get a spray-up formula and guess what we discovered......it spit out the code for the candy root beer. 😮
Far be it for me to ever suggest that the moco would keep the same color but just change the name to make it more "special" 🤔 Mentioned it to the service and parts guys and they just kinda smiled.
Tints are coming tomorrow to do a match up. We will soon find out it thats truly the case. He said most likely the difference may just be in the amount of pearl coats needed. Its a tri-coat color with a black base.

Have a 7x16 trailer and hauled 2 ultras and street glide to strugis 2015 with biker bars. Too tight to strap back two bikes. picture too big to load, sorry.

Now I see why you sold the Bushtec you got a bigger trailer. You can't go wrong with Biker bar had a buddy that hauled his Harley behind the cab of his semi truck. He had a ramp he would attach in front of the fifth wheel plate where the Biker bar type rig was bolted down. He would ride up the ramp stop and his system required him to shove a pin through two brackets one on each side of the frame. Bike rode side saddle. Scared me to pieces every time I saw him do it. Drove it off by attaching the ramp on the opposite side. I believe he had a machine shop make his back in the early eighties. Took his bike all over America with him.

Jim there are a few pics of the exterior in this thread but a few people have asked when I'm going to post pics of the interior. I'll get some interior pics posted this evening.

I just bought the same exact setup as yours same truck I believe F350 DRW and the Momentum 376th I have a new Harley Classic Ultra and just bought the bar also should be here Friday, have a question did you have any problems drilling the holes in the Momentum to put the Biker Bar in? Also have you traveled with it and had any issues also? I want to make sure I get it done right the first time so my bike is secure and safe.....really appreciate any insight.

I just got my Biker Bars in today looking forward to installing them in my trailer. A friend of mine has 1 and really likes it. Take a look at them and maybe the CVO members can get a group price from the factory.

Wish I would have seen this before the last Sturgis trip. Spent 45 mins strapping both bikes in & out of the wheel chocks so I wouldn't scratch them. I'd be in for a group by, need 2.

To JCZ; I’ve got a 328M Grand Design Toyhauler.
How did you access the underside if your RV to fasten the plates? Did you cut through the layers of underbelly stuff to get to the floor?
Thanks, COB

On the 376TH the garage floor is not sealed underneath like the rest of the RV so it was very easy. I'm not sure about the 328M......if it has the coroplast under your garage, maybe you can just drop that one section and then put it back up after the Biker Bar is installed.

For some reason when I load mine there is a greater than 75% That the left side will lock but the right side will not then it becomes a rear hassle. Cant figure if its the ride height if the bike is a little sideways, or if there is something wrong with the brace?

Im guessing you're a bit sideways. I have that issue now and then. It only takes being a little bit off.
