Folks,
You guys have all seen my avatar. That's my little buddy, Springer. Springer came to us three years ago this month from a rough first four months of life. He was found running around the streets of Enterprise, AL. Long story short, we got him, and he has lived VERY well since then. He has issues. He trembles when anything or anyone one new comes around him. He wants each day to be just like the day before, and if it isn't, it upsets him, and he retreats to his hidey hole between our bed and the couch in our bedroom. He's a terrific Boxer. Loves to play "catch"..........whatever you got........in the yard, loves to be right next to me in the garage when I'm out there tending to the Harley's, but most of all, he loves being with his humans. He's right here with me right now..........sprawled out on the floor on top of my feet. Renea and I really love this guy. Great Boxer.
Thursday we noticed a mass on Springer's right hock. He's due this month for his annuals, so I took him in yesterday morning. Fine needle aspiration reveals mass cell tumor.
Every last one of our Boxers has had at least one of these. You'd think we'd shrug it off. Nope. Cancer killed Sassy Girl. Annie Bea has had two mass cells cut from her as well as two carcinomas within close proximity of her lymph node on the left side of her neck. The last was three years ago this month.........the very same month we got Springer. According the "specialists" at Auburn, she should be long gone by now..................but she's well on her way to ten years old and despite her back challenges, she still roughs it up with Springer. It can't be shrugged off. You worry. They're family. Just the way it is.
Please keep my boy in your thoughts and prayers as he has surgery on 27 November to excise this cancer. Thanks.
Henry
