Title: Thoughts and Prayers for one of our own.
Post by: VaEagle on April 30, 2007, 07:49:52 AM
Some of you may be aware of one of our own going to the hospital today for surgery. For those who don't know.

The member is PHAZE.

I wanted to offer him thoughts and prayers and hope everything goes well and he has a speedy recovery and is back on the bike soon.
I will let him reveal the specifics of his condition and procedure. I'm sure he will be posting when he can.

A post by PHAZE on another thread,

Dave,

I had another member put me onto this thread.  I'm glad to hear that you're through the surgery and well on the road to recovery.  I was found to have severe mitral valve prolapse a couple of months ago.  I've been through a heart echo, a TEE, and a heart cath.  I'm scheduled for surgery 04/30.  My cath had me clean as a whistle (no blockage).  I've been approved to go the robotic route, so they won't have to open up my chest.  I understand that the recovery time is reduced just because they don't have to cut through the breast bone.

The surgeon says the I've got about a 66% to 75% chance of him being able to repair my valve, but we'll have to be prepared with a plan incase the repair doesn't work out.  I've got an appointment with my surgeon next Tuesday and want to talk with him about tissue valve (pork or beef) versus the metal valve.  They say the metal valves last forever, but I've got some concern about the blood thinners.  I've considered that 10 or 12 years from now valve replacement might be an outpatient procedure, but I'm just 49 now.  If the tissue valves just last 10 to 12 years (what I was told by doc), I'd probably need three or four and that's just to the point that I give up the Harleys for a Vette.

I'll plan to PM you.  I'd appreciate your opinions on the valve replacement.  I wish you the best on your continued recovery and hope that your back in the saddle sooner rather than later.

Thoughts & Prayers,
PHAZE

There is another thread going on Preston (PHAZE) http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=13123.new#new

I talked with his wife Rhnea and she said he is out of surgery and Doc said he is doing well, she was not sure if they were able to repair or had to replace. She said she would call and let me know. I will pass on when I hear. Keep praying for a speedy recovery with no complications! Bless Ya'll!

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers on this thread too!  I got out of the hospital between 11:00 a.m. and noon yesterday.  I felt good enough to go visit it friend yesterday afternoon that has been slow to recover from a back surgery and I went to church this morning.

It is nice to know that you've got folks making petitions for you.  The concern has been appreciated!

Great to see you back on your feet Preston! I guess you can't wait to get back on that new SERK of yours. Don't push it though, it's not going anywhere. If you're feeling up to it, maybe we'll get to meet on my KY trip. Fell better and I'm happy everything went so well for you. :2vrolijk_21: Hoist! 8)
