Title: Vibration/buzzing
Post by: CVORoadKing2013 on July 25, 2013, 08:53:53 AM
Have a 2013 CVO Road King. Love the bike. Have S and S headers , 16" Wild one's, a PV from fuel moto , Harley Goodies floorboard extender.

I get buzzing/ vibration in the floorboards nothing bad mainly in th elower gears 2,3 at speeds of 25-40mph. For the life of me I can't remember if my old bike ( 2011 Rk ) had this. Just curious if others have this. At 55-65 I dont feel anything .

Just curious if others feel the same thing

When did you first notice the buzzing?? Was it after the installation of the exhaust and/or floorboard extenders? Quite possibly could be something touching (that shouldn't be) creating/causing the vibration. :nixweiss:

pipes and bars have been on since i brought it home. Floor board extenders about a month later. Not sure if it has been there all along or not. I have just recently been paying attention to it. Been trying to tune it out but not much luck. It is not bad would just be nice to get it out.

One thing that can cause this is exhaust misalignment. The big bolt on the bracket by the transmission should be the LAST bolt you tighten.

I don't know how the S&S headers mount - but with a stock header, a Fullsac, etc. the big bracket can cause vibration if it is tightened before the other bolts on the exhaust are tightened.

I suggest that you loosen all of the bolts and clamps on the pipes, then tighten the bolts at the heads, then the clamps, then the rear bolts at the saddlebags, and lastly the big bolt on the bracket by the transmission. This MAY eliminate the vibration.

I have the floorboard extenders, too. They do not cause footboard vibration.

I had the dealer install the exhaust. I wish I could remember if it buzzed when I fist got it in March. I might have them double check it when I get back from Sturgis. I will check the heat shields and Floor Board bolts tonight.

Thanks for the help

I'm having the same issue (rattle/vibration) but think it's coming from the lower adjustable vents/louvers.  Did you solve the problem?

Not sure if the same but I have the '13 RK windshield on my "08 RK and it vibrates and buzzes at low speed. Just put your hand on top of the windshield and see if it goes away.

My 13 is doing this also.  I never noticed it when it was new.The handlebars buzz so bad it puts my left hand to sleep. I get vibration in the bars, the engine guard...hiway pegs and floorboards. The mirrors don't vibrate very bad. Only thing done was added floorboard extensions and hiway pegs. Gonna get it checked at the 1000 mile service. Its getting worse.

I forgot to mention that it vibrates worse than my girlfriends 2013 Heritage. It starts around 1400 to 1800 RPM'S and get worse till around 3300 RPM's it seems worse at 2600 to 3000 RPM's. Vibrations not bad at 4,000 RPM'S. I bet the dealer says they all do that.

Well I took my bike in for the 1,000 mile service and dropped it off. The mechanic has done some adjustments to it. I'm gonna pick it up today and see how it rides out. I'll post back later. At least I didn't get the "They all do that reply"  ;D  :P

I rode it home from the dealer service and it rides much better. The excessive vibration is gone. I just got the normal vibration now. He adjusted the drive belt and primary chain. He also checked the handle bar bushings. I'm glad I took it in. Now I'll see if it happens again or was a 1 time problem.

Glad to see you got an improvement, and hope it stays around.  I'm getting some hesitation during deceleration/downshifting that I'll have to deal with after my baby wakes up from her long winter's nap.
