Nice wheels bro. Now you need to lose one of the front brake rotors so you can see em. And to answer your question the wait, no, but then again I'm not the patient sort.

Like I said though, nice wheels.

Add a little sunshine and some warm weather and I'm sure they be downright freakin gorgeous. brrrrrrrrrr those pictures of your driveway made me shiver.

All in all it was a simple job to swap the wheels out. I agree that I have to remove the rotor and caliper. Do I have to change my master to do that?  The rotor removal is easy enough as long as I don't need to replace the master.  Thanks for all the good words. i think it was worth the wait the wheels are real nice and I love the new stance.. Thanks for watching,Q

Johnny Q, the Wheelmon! They look great man. I hope you think it was worth the wait because that's all that matters. I think it looks awesome! Personally, I'm not sure I'd give up a rotor to see more wheel, but if you do that, change the master to a single disc master or you won't have the proper hyd. pressure, and the lever feel will be poor. Up to you bro. Again great job. You must be thrilled that it's finally over! :2vrolijk_21: Hoist! 8)

Seeing the complete profile I realize you're right. It would look lie I cheaped out if I didn't do the back wheel. While you can't see the whole wheel you see enough to notice the difference in diameter, stance etc. So now I guess when I find the wheel that I just gotta have, I just gotta have two  LOL By the way I also see what you were talking about on the rims. That is cool. Real sweet.

On your master cylinder question, as I said I believe you can run a single disc with a master cylinder intended for dual disc, but not the other way around. If I'm wrong would someone explain why ?

It wiil work, as you say. But that's not good enough for a properly working brake system. The hydr. pressure is different in single and dual masters, as they have different size orifices to regulate the pressure. The dual disc master accounts for 2 calipers operating together, with the calipers designed to work correctly at that pressure. The orifice is sized to provide the proper pressure for that application, thereby providing adequate and consistant lever feel. Remove one caliper, you change the pressure and do not get the proper feel at the lever. I have done this and personally would never do it again. These masters are engineered this way for a reason. HD brakes are not known as the best in the world as it is. Why jeopardize having predictable brakes for the cost of a new master? The guy just spent a small fortune on everything. I don't want to see it end up in a junkpile because he can't stop the bike properly. All for a $150 master cylinder. Not on my bike, that's for sure! Hoist! 8)

Sounds good on the surface Howie, but you're not supporting your position with anything other than a bunch of BS and emotion. " proper feel at the lever " ?????? that's pretty subjective. I'm not saying you're wrong, but as an engineer I expect more in way of explanation than the song and dance routine of your post.

I'm not an automotive engineer so I'm not going to try to explain it in that context because I can't. In my field of refrigeration, pressure characteristics of fluids downstream of an orifice, are based on the orifice size. The larger the orifice, metering the same volume of fluid as a smaller orifice, will result in a lower pressure on the outlet side of that orifice. Orifice sizes are carefully selected to provide the exact pressure that's required for the system. There's no debating the effect of orifice size on downstream fluid pressures. So if a system is properly engineered for a particular pressure, and a fixed orifice is selected to maintain that pressure on a closed, fixed volume system, changing that orifice size changes the fluid's pressure. Period. If your calipers are designed to operate at a certain pressure, and you arbitrarily change their pressure, why would you think it would have no effect on the matched components selected to comprise that system. It really only takes a little common sense to see this. And like I said, I tried it. Out of necessity, but I tried it. And it sucks! Hoist! 8)

All this talk about orifices along with singing & dancing seems to be off subject. Maybe should be on a singles forum :huepfenlol2:

The talk about single disc is a moot point on Q's wheels. When the order is placed for wheels, they need to know if you want it machined for single or dual disc. Johns are machined for dual disc, so if he removes the right rotor the hub wont look right. You'll see the mounting holes for the rotor and it will look unfinished. That is unless he has a tapered end cap specially machined to finish it off. IMHO not worth it & won't look right.

Q's wheels look great as is. They have matching "shredder" rotors they go with the theme of the bike as well as his personality.

I've seen Q ride and he loves to haul ass and jam out. The man needs both rotors up front....That's a fast fact.  :2vrolijk_21:

Big Daddy - They look great, curious to hear a ride report once you get a chance to scuff them babies up, also They are a lil taller so the speedo will be off a tad but the good news is the rpms drop a tad too. I agree you need to do the rear wheel - with the 18's you WILL see it and notice it. I switched HD duals to PM 6 piston single, replaced the whole brake line but didn't know about a differant master cylinder. Is there a Harley part number I need to get? I will say I have a differant feel, there's plenty of brake there - just comes on "Softer" - not really slower but progressive - grab a fistfull and you'll stop - in very short space - but no over the bars feel. I don't know but think the 18's and progressive front and rear helped here also - all in all the bike feels really really surefooted & nimble and no where near as heavy as my lighter Roadking when all is said and done. - Oh yeah - PM has a beautiful axle cap, blends right in ;D

But for the fun of it, how many different fluid systems do you suppose there are on a Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer ? I've got CORDs on CORDs on CORDs in some of em. I think I understand fluid dynamics fairly well, but if I can't keep up I'll holler Uncle. So lecture away Mr Wizard.

No more lectures and no more pissing! If you're that versed in fluids, you should have know better than to recommend using the same master. Either that, or you do know that it will not operate the same with either master, but recommended it anyway. I won't mess with someone elses safety. Mr Wizard's done on this one, but he recommends using the correct master for the application, not the incorrect one! ;) Hoist! 8)

With the paint on.

This is just awesome John. Hope it isn't too long before I can see it in the flesh again. You know when I look at this picture of your bike, and think of Neal's and then go check out Elvis and all three bikes are essentially the same motorcycle, I understand this passion we all have for what we do. It's incredible that three bikes so alike can be so different. Harley-Davidson rules and they don't call em Road KINGS for nothin. Please post some close up shots of the wheels such as where the rims and tires meet, the hubs etc. I'd like to see some of the detail in these wheels you and Grover have talked about

Mark , thanks for the good words. And for the brake deal I don't know what I will do. If I remove 1 side I can get my dad to machine me a custon hub. But I will ride like it is first and you can see the wheels fine when your doing the typical walk around the bike like people do when they check out your scoot anyhow.  How much of the wheel will you see WFO on the highway anyway? And that 1 rotor was 200 clams!!!!  For now it stays and I like the stopping power, especially when you have precious cargo riding with you.  ;)   Later,Q

Hey BD - I have just sat and read this thread all the way through. Great job on the bike, she looks schweet !

Not too sure about what was going on with the hydrodynamics debate, but it sure gave me a giggle on a wet Saturday afternoon in England.

Make sure you have plenty of good quality chrome polish, we don't want those babies getting tarnished now do we.

That was fun.

Ive never had a chance to see before and after pics and I'm amazed at how much of a difference in appearance those rims give your bike, really an outstanding look. I am also (like Ceej) looking forward to a update in the future to see what you think of the way the bike feels with those beauties.

John...man, the wheels look great on the bike!!  It really changes the entire look of the bike, and I think you made an excellent choice for your bike.

I wouldn't be concerned with the whole rotor thing...the only time they cover the middle is when you're looking straight at them, and nobody gets that view anyway.  On a walkaround, they're going to see the total package and it's lookin' might fine to my eyes!!

I know you're glad the whole thing is done now, though I've got a feeling you're not done quite yet  ;)

Nice John.  REAL nice  :2vrolijk_21: !!

I was gone for a few days and didn't even see the new thread here until this morning.  It is great you finally got the parts home.  And it's a BEAUTIFUL difference on the bike.  Man that looks sweet.

Congrats on finally getting it all home and on getting it all buttoned up on the bike so quickly.  You've got a lot there to be proud of Q.  Ride it happy and ride it hard.  Because you know that's what something that looks that good deserves.

Congrats again.  Looks just amazing.  Can't wait to see it again up close some time.

Damn that's sweet........

Since the discussion is going on about single calipers and master cylinders etc. it might be worthwhile to check this thread on brakes:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=12002.0;topicseen

Sure makes one think about some new brakes.

BigDaddy:

What were the pros and cons you dealt with in deciding on what size rims and tires for your scoot?

Not really many cons except with the tire size to what weight you can carry.I don't have a tour pack and I usually don't overload my scoot on trips so it wasn't an issue. The pros are the overall new stance and the look of 18 inch wheels on a bagger. If you have any other ?'s feel free to PM me and I will give you my cell number.  Later,Q

Q, if you decide to go with a single front caliper then switch the master cylinder to a 9/16 bore. Stock is an 11/16 for the twin calipers.

Your rim company can send you the correct spacers and end cap to go with the single caliper

6 piston caliper if going to a single
