Good point Gary. I only went in with the thought to add the 251. Anything above that is in addition to my original idea. I'm open to any vendor or manufacturer.

Very curious if what perceptions our resident motorheads may have. Initially just looking for a little more power and to maybe help cool her down a little.
Ok, Motorheads I've just gotten you "carte blanche" to spend Howie's money at your will. :D ;D :D ;D

GH,
If it were my engine,I would stay with the stock cam plate, use stock MoCo lifters, and ADJUSTABLE push rods.If you have a SERT,I'd stay with that.Just be sure you can find someone who is really good and will take the time mapping a race tuner(very few&far between). If you're going to change tuners, use TTS Mastertune(it's the best available)!
I've done a number of these,as a MILD build, and they work out well.

Being the FNG non-wrenching fool that I am.... I was at the dealer the other day and asked their shop foreman who appears to have experience with performance builds  :nixweiss: what he would suggest in regards to adding the 251 cam.

His reply was that while the list he gave me is not all necessary if it were his bike this is the way he would go. He also made mention of the ole adage opinions are like assholes.  :huepfenlol2:

Here is his list:

Part# 22503-07 SE High Comp Piston +.010 o/s

         25466-06 SE 251 Cam

         25282-07 SE Cam Plate

         18401-03 SE Perfect Fit Pushrods

         18572-07 SE Tappets

         37951-98 SE Clutch Spring

         17378-98 SE Roller Rockers

         17675-01b SE Forged Plate

         + 19 hrs labor
Also suggested pulling my SERT and replacing with Super SERT for more adjustability

Gotta open her up for new ACR's and gaskets anyway!!  :sauer005:

I am looking for a reliable motor not the fastest bike on the site!!  :huepfenjump3: I am curious to hear from my motorhead pals here and tell me what youze think about this suggestion. If I lock in by the end of the month the dealer will give me a 25% off parts and labor.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!      :rolleyes4: :rifle: away  :drink:

Thanks,

Howie

Do you've made the work recall ?
If it's not made !
It's not hrs labor for your upgrade !
Put all in same time the recall .

In my list, I've added the Torrington bearings B168 for cams.

OR...There's another option.

Do the engine upgrades AND buy the O/B SERG.  ;D :2vrolijk_21:

GH,

My bike is in the shop right now getting 251 cams w/10.5 pistons (.010 over)  and the SE perfect fit pushrods. This is being done while they have it in for the upgrade. It should be done about tuesday, I will be putting up a post on the results. I have an 07 ultra classic converted to a 110, so it had a 46mm TB stock. It has been upgraded with the SE 50mm TB.

Well it's gona be a couple weeks on the bike. The dealer doesn't have the torque plates for the four inch cylinders to do the .010 bore. They had to order them and they won't be in for a couple of weeks. So it's a good thing I've got my wife's 05 Ultra to ride. Soon as I get my bike back I will be sure and get a post up on how it turned out.

I tried the SE 251's couple of years ago and was very disappointed. The SE 255's run strong in every RPM range while the SE 251's only "turn on" at engine speeds in excess of around 3500 RPM, which is not practical for most riders. The 251's are actually dead at 2000 RPM and sluggish at 3000. So you will always need to downshift.

Many riders agree that the best cams HD ever made were the SE 203's followed closely by the SE 255's. Don't be fooled by dyno charts either. How often do most people ride consistently at speeds of 3600 to 5000 RPM? You need most of your torque to "turn on" at around 2500, 3000 or 3500 RPM.

You tried them a couple of years ago in a CVO 110? Or another engine? :confused5:

HD was lucky and by coincidence they seem to work well on a CVO 110. Know many people happy with them when setup right. And not much to doing that. May need a TB too, depending on year. ;)
