reading the FAQs on the dragonfly site they say their faring will sit over the tach, no need to remove it. they will also cut 2 openings for 2inch gauges one on either side of the radio,

maybe a tach on one side and an oil pressure on the other...............

Anything out there that will allow the use of the existing tach?  So far, dragonfly goes over the tach (and covers it up) or Hoppe that you have to remove it.

dragonfly has a relocation bracket

i was thinking if you can cover the existing and tap the signal wire for one in the faring then when you remove the fairing you still have the existing tach

That would be pretty slick.  Just the power plug and a signal wire to unplug.  Are you thinking of cutting a hole in the fiberglass and flush mounting a tach?  It looks like there is room above the radio on both Hoppe and Dragonfly.  Just wonder if they are deep enough in that area?

The tach on the SERK mounts with one screw in the bottom, the problem is getting to that screw.  If it was easier, you might be able to transfer the entire tach guts back and forth, thus maintaining the look of the gage.

TB, you might take a look at the Cycle Visions kit from Drag. Have you seen the conversion that they do for the Vrod ?

I decided to just buy a FLTRI, and save all of the hassel...

Good Luck, WD

WD,

Thanks for the info.  I checked out the site, pretty cool conversion for V-Rod's but very pricey.  I see now why you bought the Roadglide.  How are you liking it?  I rode one for the first time a couple of weeks ago.  I was very impressed (thus why I am looking at fairings).

Neal,

What's you opinion of Dragonfly vs Hoppe?  Looks like the Hoppe fairing has 4 speakers vs the 2 on the Dragonfly.   From what I have seen from you, it looks like the Dragonfly might be easier to fit with a tach.  Thoughts????

i have seen both in person. and my opinion was that the 4 speakers looked out of place, where as the dragonfly looked more like a stock fairing and can even mount fairing mount mirrors.

i got all winter to do the research though

naitram,
I saw the dragonfly at Laconia myself, was thinking for the Heritage. I agree with you as for the speakers on the Hoope. The dragonfly looks a bit more stock and more room to add-in what I wanted.

The fairing in PurpleSEI's pics looks like it's got metal brackets to attach it to the bike. The Dragonfly has a big thick fiberglass brkt that's part of the inner fairing. Am I seeing this right, because if I am the one that Purpleman's got has gotta be stronger.

Ordered a Hoppe on 12/22/05  As I mention above, I did not like the ideal of the attachment brakts being made of Fiberglass as well as how thick they are. Will let everyone know how the Hoppe works out as I go along. Fit anf finish first, test rides and then off to paint.

Fairing came in yesterday. Looks good, hot wired the stereo, popped in Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" sounded great. Quick question ? Why the metal spacers and warning about not using factory rubber grommets ? Fit is good,. Well made product. Off to the painter this week, and photos when it's done
