Made it fit
« on: July 10, 2009, 11:36:57 PM »

Well, I have to say the windvest 10" is an excellent shield. Replaced KW and now I can actually hear the radio. Love the looks and the buffeting is gone...Big improvement. You get the wind but the Jet stream effect isn't there. I matched the shield to the SERG gasket on this one too and thought I would share it. :drink:

Don`t you have two gaps , right and left from center-screw?
How did you match it to have no gaps ?
Now i used the standard roadglide gasket and the gaps are gone with the WW 12"

What has to be done to make that shield work with the stock SERG gasket?  Thanks Doc

Tape and mark the profile of the shields bottom edge to the fairing. From the Corners and tapering back will need to be trimmed about an 1/8th of an inch. The center screw hole must be slotted to bring the shield down. The most important mod I found was removing 1/2 the thickness of the center portion of the SERG gasket. It has a raised area that seems to prevent most all of the after market shields from laying back. I removed about 1/2 of the gasket at the top tapering left and right 5" and tappered to the bottom lip with a small hand grinder and 120 grit. Just lay the rubber out on a flat surface. Taper to the bottom lip carefully. The thickness at the top 10" will be 1/2 of what it was, tapering outward. This is a good tip for the other shields also. :drink:
