There is one less Bull in the world
« on: July 13, 2009, 01:02:35 AM »

Hi everyone,Just thought I would share my story[therapy you know].I left on 6/28/2009 from MN,stopped in Billings MT.Day 2 I made it two Hope ID when I came around a corner with the sun in my face I saw a car stopped with a
big black bull standing in front of it.I got on the brakes and as I was doing this the Bull trotted 3 steps and was dead center my lane and I t-boned him.Up and over I went,at least I think so I blacked out when I hit.I think I was only out 5 seconds or so,The next thing I know I was laying in the ditch in pain. The people in the car were out two help and call 911 right away[although the guy held we down antill the ambleance came which may or maynot have helped]anyway I got a ride in the ambulance an spent 3 or 4 hours in the hospital.Meanwhile the nice people that lived across the street rolled what was left of my bike down to their house and let me store it there for a hole week while I waited for my dad to come out and pick me and the bike up.Back home now and I got my first estimate $9370.00 the frame is still good so I want it fixed not totaled. As for me new aches and pains but I think I will survive and feel lucky to be alive. As for the bull he wondered around 2 days before it was cornered and shot. While I am sad to have to write this story I did get to spend a week on the side of a mountain with my sister her family and my father and that makes it worth all the pain and suffering.

                              Hoping to ride again JAMES

Glad you survived your accident and are recovering!  I t-boned a deer at 80 mph in 2004, so I have a good idea just how sore you are...  good luck... :2vrolijk_21:

Not that it matters at this point, but you may want to pursue legal action against the bulls owner. Up here a farmer can be held accountable if his animals get out of their enclosure.

Agreed. Don't know if Idaho's the same though.

James, glad to read you're OK. Bikes can be repaired / replaced.  I'd stay away from "bull steak" though.   :nervous:   :nervous:

Dang! Hope you get healed quick and start riding again.

On the subject of suing the bulls owner. Here in Idaho it's mostly free range. We're a rad state and try to protect the ag base of our economy.

Glad to hear you're ok and recovering well.  Looking at the bright side of things is always best as you mentioned spending time with your family.  On a even better note now you can upgrade everything you wanted to on the bike and it will be better than ever!!  :pineapple: :pepper: :bananarock: :mango: :2vrolijk_21:

We have lots of free range as well, doesn't matter though - they're still responsible.

Bungy,
That could be in Canada. Here in Idaho that is not the case. If it's free range or as we call it, open range, not only will your insurance company be responsible for fixing your vehicle it will also be buying a new bull. There's been alot of cows and horses that have all of a sudden become registered breeding stock if you know what I mean.

You are SO lucky!  Thank GOD you are alive with no serious injuries.   :2vrolijk_21:

If it were me I'd sell the bike as is & buy another.  There's bound to be hidden damage.  Will you be confident on the bike again at high speed?  Not worth the risk if you ask me.  A couple grand more, maybe, for the assurance.

Hello everyone,Thank you all for your response and well wishes.I am doing better every day although my wrists and grip still have a ways to go I can finally gently roll onto my right side for a little while.Yes Idaho is open range I received my accident report yesterday. My bike is currently up at the dealship waiting for parts.I checked with them on my 7 year no deductable warranty and it is still valid. They are replacing everything damaged with new. Both fenders, tank.swingarm as far as I know the frame is still good.Only time will tell.I am a Little skittish but looking forward to getting back in the saddle again I only had 26483 miles on it and would like to hit 100,000 and I still have 6 years of warranty left.

                             Ride safe......Thanks Again James
