Kuryakyn really can't get over those big, rolled, folded looking covers they've been doing so much of the last couple years.  Have to assume some like the look as they do keep making them.  But as a stylistic theme it just ain't my thing.  Get the stock ugly black plate chromed.  It'll actually look like it belongs there.  Unless someone likes the Kuryakyn piece.  Then it's good too :drink: .

I guess there are those that like that look...it's not my "cup of tea".  I think someone in another thread called it a "gothic" look.  I have to agree.  It's just a little too far out for my tastes.  Bet those parts would look good on a Victory Vision though.... :huepfenlol2:

The HD one chromed looks good, the Kurakyn one looks cheap, and it isn't cheap. All the Kurakyn stuff looks the same way, made for the Honda/Kawa crowd I think.
But unless you like the look, no reason to buy a Heavy breather, it will not make more power regardless of shape. Surface area of the stock breather on a SERG far surpasses what the engine can use, even when heavily modified a twin cylinder pushrod 2 valve motor can only use so much air.

It's a pretty easy install, just a few beers is all it takes

Very easy install, really didn't need any beers.
Put 20 miles on her this evening after the install.  My shin never touched her until I reached for the rear brake.
In 20 miles the stock AC would have been hot to the touch.  The snorkel was lightly warm, but not hot.  I suspect the 360 air source in the cone filter is a benefit.
Used the thick gasket and left the backing plate off.  Looks like it's just another heat sink and I really don't want to retain heat.
Performance didn't seem to change much, if any from the stock with the 49-96 catless header.  No spark knock or strange noises.  However, it (intake noise) is really a lot louder when you start rolling it on above 3,000 rpm.  That could be due to the lower fairing magnifying the noise back to you in an echo type of effect.
It's a keeper.

Did HD release a new version of the heavy breather (I know, could check the P&A site but I really need the post count)?  Remember the -08 version specifying against use with fairing lowers.

New one or just mounted it anyway?

Sorry about the delay in responding.  I needed to get the box out and verify what I had.

It's; P/N 29253-08A HEAVY BREATHER A/C KIT TOURING

And, from the US SE10 Catalog;

"Fits ’08-later Touring models. Street legal when used with Original Equipment throttle body. Also fits with 58mm
Throttle Body P/N 27713-08 and 27639-07 (race application only). Installation with Throttle Body P/N 27639-07 requires purchase of (2) Screw P/N 29465-08. Does not fit models equipped with fairing lower glove boxes.*"

I've still got the stock TB p/n 27685-08A (which requires the 29465-08 Breather Bolts), so I it's still street legal.  But, the filter does have a space conflict with the right side glove box.  So no glove box.

Hawg Sounds earlier identified a new Compact Design HB and new filter that's soon to be available, but the 29253-08A with standard filter will work with lowers and no glove box.

So, how important is the right side lower fairing glove box?

For me, getting rid of the overheated football A/C was the need.  My boot zipper has gotten so hot sitting next to  the football that it burned my leg just sitting at a stop light.  And, that's not funny.

This was all about rider comfort.  Not performance.

Here's the new one: Compact Design - Chrome, PN: 28716-10

Fits ’08-later Touring models equipped with Fairing Lower Glove Boxes. Slightly shorter cone-shaped element provides clearance from the fairing lower. Street legal when used with Original Equipment throttle body.*

For those of you with the Heavy Breather,

Are the oil breathers routed into the intake and if so, have you experienced any oil residue or misting at the filter itself? The stock SERG filter will drip oil after it becomes saturated from the breather blow-by. I think the Heavy Breather might eliminate this issue if the breathers are routed to the intake well after the filter element.

Hello JDFR120,  I used to live down the street on Kennedy years ago.  Honestly, I don't miss the humidity.

I'm aware of what you're referring to.  I used to have the oil accumulation in the inside of the stock filter.  Many a cleaning session in the sink.  I've only got 500 miles on the new HB, but I don't see any indication of the any oil buildup yet.  I took it apart after the first 30 miles to review the installation and see if it looked like something wasn't right.  And, then again at about 200 miles, it was still clean as it had been before.  The different breather bolts create a bit different flow dynamic and the oil gallery's while similiar appear to pool oil inside the breather bolt corridor instead of dumping it straight into the filter box.  If I see any changes I'll post the observation.  But, it is a Harley?
