Finned Headbolt Cover Help
« on: March 11, 2010, 09:24:23 PM »

Does anyone know if Harley ever made a Finned headbolt cover that matches the motor paint on a SERK 105th Ann. ? Got one from dealer in silver but way to light of a color. Any help would be great. If not what is everyone using to cover that spot? Thanks.....

I've only seen those bridges in black or silver, and that's all I see listed in the catalog as well.  I would bet you could get your dealer to order some granite engine touch-up paint so you could paint the silver to match, at least a lot closer than it is now.

Do as GRC stated and buy the silver bridges and spray with HD Granite paint.  Not an exact match but close enough for most of us.

I'm surprised HD doesn't have a color matched bridge for the 110's. Maybe next century? I've been waiting for 2 years now. Good idea to paint one.

Scott,

HD only has the Finned Headbolt Bridge Set in silver or black.  My 09 SERG has a granite motor.  Just get some Dupont Duplicolor spray paint.  I'm not sure what color you'll need but it's not hard to match.  To match the granite motor, I painted with standard gray and cleaned off the edges of the fins with a rag before the paint had a chance to dry.  You can see the results here:  SERG AND CVO: VERY GOOD TO ME! NEXT?  Easy project with good result, I think.  Good luck!

Mine IS an exact match - just as you suggest, done with the HD granite aerosol:

It's easy to do.  There was some discussion about whether the match was affected by whether you started out with silver or black bridges.  I used silver, but I really doubt that it makes any difference - as I say, perfect match.  ;)

Thanks for all the input. I ordered the paint from local HD. Helps that I also work at a bodyshop, painter said np to strip old silver and repaint with spray paint from HD.

Definitely no need to strip the old paint!
