I've got 17K + now...

commute with my scoot to and from work, ride weekends 2-up.

The OE front tire D407 was replaced under warrany due to cupping... I think that was at about 8K by that point and the bike was spooky to ride in the rain very little traction up front.... tire was replaced with a D408 (tread pattern reversed)

At ~10K during service a small nail was noted in the rear tire (wasnt leaking as far as we could tell) but a new one was ordered anyway.

So... at current I have 9K on the front with no issues, and a little over 7K on the rear. Both still have lots of tread left.

Many of the earlier bikes with the Dunlop 407's had so much "cupping that HD" replaced a lot of tires before they wore out.

HD replaced both of mine at about 9,100 miles and I am now at just over 16,000 with the 408 on the front.  This new set thus has almost 7,000 and seems to be doing fine.  Sorry I can't give a better "life" estimate.

Ride two up a lot and hard without.

14000 rear (probabaly more if I needed to) and 14000 front and it too was replaced under the recall.

408 front 19K
407 rear 17K
Tires were replaced when the tread depth reached 3/32. I ride solo most of the time.

Over 13,000 on the OEM front...still looks good.

Can't keep various crap from impaling itself in to the rear tire.

I had the front 407 replaced at 5K due to severe cupping but they only had a 407 on-hand.  I couldn't wait since we were leaving for Key West the next day.  I replaced it with a 408 a couple thousand miles later at my own cost.  Its doing very well now at 12K.  I also complained about the rear cupping as well but the dealer and MoCo stuck their heads in the ground stating that they'd heard nothing about rear 407s cupping.  I said Well, you're hearing about it NOW...still no joy so I replaced the rear at around 9K at my own expense.

I brought my SEVERELY cupped rear to the dealer a month or so ago when dropping the bike off for some other warranty work...I laid it on the counter and said " here is a good cupped rear 407 example for you people to use as a reference".  The owner's wife came over and said they'd keep it and that if anything ever comes out on the rear 407s they'd make my fix retroactive.  I guess I couldn't expect more...we'll see.

I now run 40 psi front and rear and haven't had any problems as yet.  The bike doesn't track as well on rain grooves or lane seams with the (reverse) 408 up front as it did with the 407.

I got 12k plus on my first set, no cupping or tread problems on either front or rear.  Had we not been going on a 3k plus road trip, I probably would have gotten another 1k on them before changing.

Only 12-13K on a front?  Was it actually ready to replace or did you do them as as a pair just because you like to do them as a pair?

Did them as a pair because I'm compulsive like that - don't want one with less tread than the other.  And I don't like the look of slick tires.  In reality, I probably could have gotten 3-4k more out of them but the BSR would have been hounding me.  And if she wants me to spend money on my SERG, then I spend it gladly!

Understand completely.  When granted license to pamper the bikes we might as well and one can't be too safe.  I do a new front with every other back.  But, again, that's just a routine I adhere to.  It's a routine I'd certainly break if I saw the tread thinner than I liked.

I dont think the 407/408 front will outlive the rear from what I'm seeing... looks like both will go about the same time... no more 20K + miles for the front versus about 10K on the rear.
