Vents on Lowers
« on: October 09, 2011, 08:38:55 AM »

Is there anyway to increase the tension on the lower vents?  When all the way open, mine have a tendency to creep close when on the highway. A friend purchased a new RG on Friday. The detents on his vents are much tighter.

Bottom middle there's a place to tighten the assembly.  Takes a 7/16" socket.  Tighten too much and you'll break something.  It is just plastic.  But needing to tighten them a little isn't unusual.  Look.  You'll see it.

I removed my vents completely.   :2vrolijk_21:   I rode with them fully open 99% of the time anyway....and I was always having to reach down to "re-open" them during long rides.  Tighening the assembly was always a very temporary fix...

The lowers are still there, just not the vents.  I wear chaps in the cold and a rainsuit in the rain and waterproof swat boots.   It works fine for me....  :2vrolijk_21:

Imho, closing them does help quite a bit when it's cold. However, the rain benefit isn't that big of a deal. Your legs just end up being sopping wet in 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes.

Mine were closing too, and did the above tightening and for the most part they stay where set now.

I leave mine open all the time. When riding in cold closed vents seams to create a different airflow or chills that riding with them open seams to change and seams better all the time.  just my 2cents    lol

When I first rode my bike, they were wide open and I didn't know they were adjustable.  In certain wind conditions I noticed my legs getting pushed away from the bike.  It was fatiguing. Closing the vents eliminated that effect and makes for a more comfortable ride.   :2vrolijk_21:
