Does anybody know what has to be purchased to install the drivers backrest OEM two piece seat? Harley Solo seat with a backrest? Corbin? Mustang?

Stock seat on the FLHRSE5 is the same design as on the 12 SERG, HD does not have a back rest for it.

The choice is a Corbin seat with back rest, mustang with back rest or Danny Gray with back rest or another manufacture.

HD does have a solo seat with back rest also.

One guy with a SERG did have a shop cut his stock seat and add in a back rest.

Here is what I put on my 12 CVO Road Glide.  Its a corbin solo.  May do that again on the Road King or may do a Danny gray solo with back rest.

I've ordered mine, FLHRSE5 Anniversary today  :), just worrying about this solo without backrest.

How did it look ?

Anyway to contact ?

Thanks,

I am going to have Bitchin Stichen custom make a driver backrest to fit the stock 2013 seat. HD dealer told me they can do it.

Wenti to Bitchen N Stichin and they have not developed the back rest for the 2013 CVO RK.Mine was the first he has seen. Dan the owner is going to develop one using my bike so you do not have to cut the seat. He said he should have the prototype done in December.  He is going to use me for the testing to see how it works for people with back issues like me.

Was there (not an hotel) http://presqu-ile.over-blog.com/article-28445881.html. Giens is 28 km from Toulon, very near by airport.

I have my passing lamps on order and I will soon have the saddle bag guards on order. I will keep the windshield. I like the vent.

I have already spent a few bucks to put on the CVO:
12V socket, GPS Mount, Stearing head lock cover.

I addded the passing lamps this last week and the red LED engine lights.

Next will be the saddle bag guards and luggage rack. Then the bike will be complete for me.

Dan at Bitchen Stichen used my bike this last week to make his plan for the backrest. Here in the next cou[ple of weeks he will get a test part back from his fabricator for me to test. If it all works out January is the goal for him to have a finished product ready to sell. Pray for good weather here in Colorado so I can ride to test out the back rest. Happy Hollidays everyone.

Boy, add me to that list who wants a back rest, I actually really like the factory  seat, it just needs the back rest. Very interested in the progress here.

I have contacted Dan so I should be on the list!  Hope it turns out well.  Kind of a strange detail where the passenger pad (pillion) overhangs the riders seat so will be interesting to see how that works.

I think most of us are in the same boat, like the seat want a back rest or need it. I did not want to buy a whole new seat just for a back rest because I don't like the design of the ones HD has to offer. Dan will be happy if this is a hit for us CVO owners.

The Road king has the same seat as the Road Glide and the Street Glide. We all have the same problem, no back rest. I had this fixed as well as many others on this site. Call Seth at Auto Originals in Farmington. 505-327-1078. He can fix you up. Very good work and very reasonable price.

Hello to all!!!
I'm new to the CVO thing and site.  I just received my 2013 CVO RoadKing 110 Anniversary, and would like to know HOW DO I STOP ALL THE WIND IN MY FACE.  The windshield looks good but OMG!!!

Also, thanks for the tip on the drivers back rest.  I've got 14' apes and tend to lean back more than not, so maybe this will help.

From what I have found, if your over 5'11" you do not stop the wind with the factory shield.  I am 6'1" and no mater where its adjusted I still get lots of wind.

I put 2350 miles on mine in two weeks.

What 14" apes are you running?

I have 14" Paul Yaffee Monkey bars on my CVO Road Glide.  Thinking about them or maybe even 16" on my CVO King

I'm 6'0" and had to order an OEM Road King Classic windshield. Also I ordered a solo HD seat with a back rest.

Just sent my factory seat off to Auto Originals in Farmington NM to have a rider back rest installed on the seat, gel put in the seat and the pillion modified to work with the rider back rest.  Should have it back in a couple weeks.  I will be off shore at work when it gets back, so about 5 weeks until I can try it out.

Weather/Roads permitting - I will be going to Denver this weekend where Dan (Bitchin Stichin) will be attending the Colorado Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet.  He will have the backrest there and will have one waiting for me.  From what I understand it attaches to the two seat mounting studs (same as where the back of the seat attaches) and will be adjustable fore/aft and will fold forward for easy mount/dismount. No seat modification required. In Dan's words "nothing short of genius".  Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to it.

can't wait to see it along with cost.  tough to visualize how it would be secure with the one mount point.

I think most of us are in the same boat, like the seat want a back rest or need it. I did not want to buy a whole new seat just for a back rest because I don't like the design of the ones HD has to offer. Dan will be happy if this is a hit for us CVO owners.

Any news about the driver back rest your ordered?
I'll get my 2013 SERK soon and I definitively want one too. Thanks.

Picked mine up Saturday at the Denver Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet.  Visited w/Dan - great guy - great product.  Very nice quality workmanship and materials.  I will try it on the bike tonight and take some photos if time allows.

Picked up new backrest from Bitchn Stichn last Saturday and now on bike.  Fit was tight due to the relatively thick plastic seat tab (not alot of extra threads on the seat mounting studs) but seems sufficient.  Will probably settle in with time.  Here is a picture - have several but not sure how to post multiple pics?

Same bike with the plastic seat tab?  I was just able (with some effort) get the knob started on the last post.  Then I tightened both with pliers.  Hopefully it will be easier to take off/on with time.

Same bike 2013 CVO Road King. Dan told me that you were having a issue with the plastic and that finally got it to work. What do you think of the back rest?

The back rest is just exactly what I wanted.  Very adjustable - fore/aft and also tilts to conform to your back. The right size, no seat modifications required, can be removed easily, folds down for easier mount/dismount, great workmanship/materials and looks good on the bike!  Hopefully the weather will straighten out a bit so I can put some miles on it. Supposed to snow again this weekend.

Thanks SGME9 and dthies for pioneering in the installation of a driver back rest on our SERK '13!!!
Looks really great and I definitively want one too.
But I'm wondering about the leather finish of the seats for the French bikes, looking at the web site it seems to be quite different from yours.
See here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/fr_FR/Motorcycles/cvo-road-king.html#!gallery
Your thoughts about this JJAA?
How can I order a driver back rest that matches the stock seats leather finish? Any ideas?

I am sure Dan will make your backrest match if you want him too. I am in the user test phase of this and if it all works out I will have a new cover made.

Looking at your bike's passenger back rest and the one on the french HD web site I see a difference. Did you already change yours?

His seat and back rest are the Anniversary color CVO Road King style.  It is different from the seat that comes on the CVO Road King in the other two colors.

Oh! That's an important point. I ordered the anniversary model, so the passenger back rest will be the same as dthies' one. Right?

The seat and pillion and passenger back rest will be just like Lunkers in this thread minus the rider backrest.

last pic

In you last pic I see the driver backrest fixed using two screws that are tighten by hand.
How rigid or strong is that type of mount.
I mean there are only two screws located in a line perpendicular to the direction of the effort. "Was that English ? !!!!!"
I mean when you really lean on the backrest, does it stay in position ? No inclination to the rear?
I'm afraid the rear fender metal sheet could be damaged over time. I would have add a third point to support the effort, and with no screw.
Like a T form.
What's your experience since you use it?
I would like to know before I place an order. Thanks.

This two point design is use by Bitchen Stichen for his other back rests and I have not heard of any issues. The two screws have to put on tight so you do not get any  movement. I had my hand tighten nuts cut by a local machine shop so I can put a wrench on them to make sure they are good and tight.

Hi - this is Doug in Palisade.  So did you just take the "knurled" knobs to a machine shop and have them alterered?  Hexagonal?  Size?

Oops - I mean "altered".  I would be a little concerned about over-tightening as well.  Not sure how much torque the bolts will accept.

Yes I took the knurled knob and had the bottom of it machined hexagonal fit a 1/2 inch wrench. I would not torge on it just tight it is made out of aluminum.

Thanks, that is a good idea - keep from messing up the knobs w/pliers.  What did that cost to have done if you don't mind me asking?  I also considered maybe "coutersinking" the holes in the backrest plate a little (maybe 1/16th or a little more) so I would have a little more bolt exposed and catch a few more threads.  Kind of hate to mess up the powder coating though.

I found this conversion for the passenger backrest on another forum, it is easy and looks pretty good.  I bought everything but the turn buckles (lowes) at ACE Hardware they have a great assortment of chrome bolts, acorns and washers.

2 1/4" X 1" coarse thread hardend bolts. Replaces the 3/4" long bolts in the front saddle bag supports reuse existing washers.

2 Turn buckles stainless steel. you want them to be 5" center to center of the eyelets with the eyelets screwed almost all the way in.

2 Nuts to fit on the right hand threaded side of each turn buckle to act as a locking nut

2 Chrome 3/8" X 2" allen button head bolts. varify this length, it must go through the eyelet, spool, washer and engage the cap nut.

2 Chrome washers for 3/8" bolts

2 Chrome 3/8" cap nuts

2 Detachable hardware spools from HD. I used leftover spools from an old two point docking hardware.

2 Rubber bushings 1/4" ID 3/8" OD approx 1/4" long. These will be used in the lower eyelet to take up slop between the 1/4" bolt and the eylet.

I am going to paint the turn buckles gloss black to make them look better but the seat is rock solid and looks great

Satisfaction! I ordered a back rest from Bitchn Stitchn, Dan shipped it to France and I installed it immediately. Great product, very nice finish.
Easy to install.

Backrest looks great but how is the pad against your back? I put one from Firehouse Customs on my Deluxe and it had the concave face and it wasn't comfortable. I swapped it for a more flat design. Just wondering before I place my order.
