It could have been worse!
« on: May 28, 2013, 07:38:24 AM »

First bike accident with 30 years under my belt.
81 year old man broad sided me April 20th 2013. 100% his fault. He said he didn't see me, but he must have been flooring it when he hit me.
I saw him stopped coming out of a parking lot, then I saw his bumper right before he plowed into me. Unfortunately for me I did not pass out, so I saw, heard and felt every bit of it.
Totaled my brand new 2013 FLHX, 2 months old with 300 miles on it.
I made out better than the bike, I got a compression fracture in my back, concussion and a crushed foot.
All the bones in my toes are smashed.
spent 4 days in the trama center then moved myself to another hospital.
I'm on the road to recovery, still have some bad days but other than that I hope to be riding again real soon.
I did order the new bike already (I know but the deal I got) a 2013 CVO Road King in Blue.

Not looking for a pity party, just wanted everyone to know to be very careful out there.
Seems to me more and more drivers have lost respect for motorcyclists besides the fact that they are more distracted and less educated.

Good luck, be safe and I hope to see you all on the road soon!

Congrats on the new SERK but sure a crappy way to get a new bike!  Glad to know you are OK and recovering.  I put in bold your comments as this is the understatement of the year.  Just got back from a two day, 900 mile trip on Saturday and wish I had a dollar for every person we passed/passed us on I-40 that were either talking on their phone or texting....shoot, one guy was talking on his phone, smoking a cig. and drinking a cup of coffee.  It's a wonder some of these folks survive the day....OK, off my  :soapbox:

AS prestated,...that's the under statement of the year!!
Here in the UK I must say they are trying yo get the mesage across. They show on TV adds some graphic road crashes with cars and riders to try to make divers awareness to bikes. But at the end of the day,.. it's still down to us to try our best to second guess and be vigilant when were out there doing what we love to do.

Sorry for your misfortune, Prayers out to you for a full recovery.

Enjoy your new SERK and watch out for those CAGE DIVERS :2vrolijk_21:

There should be a Mandatory Federal push in the months of April and May for motorcycle awareness.
I know I'm going to get blasted by someone for this but, also should be the months for Mandatory Bi-Annual Drivers retesting for drivers aged 70 and up.

Let me justify.
At what age do we start to physically and mentally regress?
Right, everyone is different, so 70 being a safe number to say most are retired and might require some assistance anyway.
Really, if you have your wits when it comes time to take the test, then you will pass and continue to drive like normal. It is just a retest.

Ok flame away....LOL

Thanks for all the well wishes!
I plan to be back in the saddle sooner than the doctors say I can.
Don't want to miss the season.

No blast from me. Anyone that could not pass a skills test shouldn't be driving. My dad is 91 and still driving, all he has to do every 4 years is pass a eye test. Takes a letter from a Dr. to pull his ticket.
