2007 cvo 6 speed indicator
« on: May 30, 2014, 01:01:02 PM »

I just picked up a 2007 cvo ultra and I have a couple of questions. 1st is it normal for it to wine when you decell w/o pulling in the clutch, no wine if you pull in the clutch. 2cd there is an indicator on the gage that tells you when you are in 6th gear, is it suppose to indicate all of the gears, only tells you when you are in 6th.

The indicator only lights up for 6th gear.  Whine noise....yes I suppose there's a whine upon decel...you could be hearing the tranny, drive belt, and/or tires.

Wasn't there some noise (whine) from a certain year(s) of transmission when they changed the way one/some of the gears were cut?

Yup.  The early Cruise Drive 6 speeds had straight cut gears for first and fifth, and quieter helical cut gears for second, third, fourth, and sixth.

I think the change to the gears was made in 2010.

2010 was the year Harley changed 5th from straight cut to helical, which reduced the noise in that gear set.  The OP's 2007 has the noisier straight cut 5th gear set.
