« on: April 24, 2015, 08:46:38 PM »

THINKING OF REMOVING THE LOWERS FOR THE WARMER MONTHS. WAS WONDERING FROM ANYONE THAT HAS DONE IT HOW MUCH IT EFFECTED THE SOUND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON THE AUDIO AS IT IS ALREADY ON THE LOW SIDE?? WAS IT A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH JUST HAVING THE SPEAKERS IN THE LIDS??

I have removed the vents from mine and found they push all the air to the inside and cool better than without them and also better with vents open.

Just unplug your front speakers, go for a ride and you'll have your answer...

My bet is very little if any sound above 50mph with out the lowers.  As stated, unplug them and take a quick ride, you will have your answer.

I removed the lowers a couple of months after purchasing the bike.
Obviously, the sound is not as good after removing half the speakers.  However, even with four speakers, at 75mph it wasn't terrific.  If your doing 55mph or less and wearing no bigger than a half helmet, the sound is quite adequate.

I removed them for two reasons, comfort and styling.  The additional air flow is a help when it starts to get warmer here in Arizona.   The other reason was purely subjective.  I think the looks of the bike improve when you remove the lowers.  Curious that the HD design team came to the same conclusion the following model year.
