Cleaning up battery Connections
« on: September 23, 2005, 01:34:15 PM »

I have 4 add-on connections to my batteries positive terminal (all have inline fuses) that I would like to clean up (Revco horn, Gerbin heated connection, Tfi tuner, and battery tender).

Any suggestions?  Thanks

Have you got somewhere you could mount a terminal block?

I was thinking about that, but there is not alot of room under the corbin seat.  Maybe under the left side cover?

A small terminal block could probably be mounted forward of the battery near the two ground posts.

Actually, what I meant to say was a power distribution box (with covered terminals and fuses).

I was looking at this for cleaning up all the battery connections that I have.  Has anyone tried one of these?

the newer batterys have 2 connection points on the terminals so you dont have to cram it all onto one :bananarock:

X4 on the new posts.  I split up the connections on my battery when I recently bought a new one with the combination top and side terminal locations, which will normally result in improved reliability of the connections.  Electrical engineers will usually tell you that you should limit the number of terminals at any one connection to no more than 3.  I personally prefer a maximum of 2.

Even with the dual terminal locations, I still like the separate distribution box/fuse box like the one mentioned by roadrunner.  If you have the space to install one, it's a much more professional installation and it has the added advantage of protected fuses that allow you to eliminate the inline fuse holders from all the extra power leads.  I can think of a few locations that would be suitable on the older style Touring frames, but I'm not sure where you might be able to mount it on the current models.

Thanks all, I like the idea of the switched power on the PC8 as well.

Ride safe!
