Windshield bags and oil leak
« on: June 27, 2008, 10:16:35 PM »

I was told by HD that the windshield bags are not compatible with the SEUC3 leather dash panel. I see from photos that some of you have installed them. What, if any, are the issues? Also, since I have discovered that the top and bottom rear head gaskets are leaking, will riding it throughout the summer cause any damage? Hope the new gaskets work. I will unload the bike and take a major hit if they don't. Ouch! I guess I can't get too upset because 2 newish BMWs have left me stranded as well.

Welcome to the site! 1st, I am told the windshield bag works just fine. I have seen them installed in person. I personally don't have a need for them other than to potentially hide the XM antenna in the future. 2nd, I have ridden several thousand miles with my gaskets leaking with no problems. You may want to wipe any excess oil so it doesn't burn onto the fins but other than that don't worry.

The three bag set up works fine with stock windshield, not so well with shorty windshield as they stick out on the sides and look dumb.

My 3 pouch bags usually contain ear plugs, blackberry phone, and small camera...and on trips, a plastic baggy full of beef jerky!   :2vrolijk_21:

When I tried to see if the two pouch unit would fit (w/o removing the shield first), just laying it on top of the dash, it appeared severly limited in its abilbity to accomodate it.  Are you saying that if you remove the shield and actually install it, the unit actually fits like it does on a regular Ultra?

It does fit, but because of the leather dash, it's kind of tight. I made some modifications to the plastic stiffeners inside the pouches. I removed the end pieces, making it easier for the pouches to conform to the space provided.

The technical term for that is the 3 bags are kinda scrunched up on the bottom, but they fit fine.   :)

Will do what Chief did next time I get a new windshield.
