High Idle
« on: June 05, 2011, 05:49:32 PM »

Today a new problem. The bike on an occasion stays with a high idle even though the throttle has returned to the neutral position. After driving for a while it goes back to normal. Whats up?

Don't blip your throttle when starting or shutting down.  Do a 3 cycle ignition on, off without starting...start on the 4th.  That should reset the ECM.  Each time you cycle, let the fuel pump cycle and the light shut off.

that worked. Still not sure why this happening after 37,000 miles. I'm not doing anything different when starting or stopping. I'll ride tomorrow and see if it changes.

I've had the same thing happen twice, once at 2000 miles and again about two weeks ago. Both times it happened after a long stretch on the freeway...curious what causes it as well.

Muddypaws, my 09 (same color as yours) did that once when i blipped the throttle when I was warming it up. I rode about 80 miles, got home , shut if off and it has not done it since. Glad yours is fixed. CAHDBIKER

Bike did it again today. It started just fine then when I pulled up to a stop several miles down the road it was at 1600 rpm's. This could be very dangerous. Is there any fix? For the first 37,000 miles this never happened.

One odd thing that i discovered when this occurs is that if i twist and hold the throttle the 1/8 inch that it turns forward the bike will idle normally while i hold it there.

muddy paws, another possable problem could be the engine temp. sensor. but you'll need a scan tool or the
factory dt to watch the values of the sensor. good luck and let us know.     axil

Sometime mine does that just 30 seconds or so when cold.
