New Here
« on: April 05, 2015, 06:52:05 PM »

How is everyone ? Just joined looking for some advice. Looking at a 2012 CVO Ultra with 5300 miles from a dealer. It is sapphire and silver.Asking 27900. What would be a better choice , A new stock Limited ( Which would sink $$ in customizing or the used CVO. Have owned everything from a sportster to a electra glide classic.Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Welcome from South Korea. I am sure someone will pipe in. I live in Korea and hard for me to advise. Customizing is expensive so the used one could be the best way. Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome.Thought that what better advice to ask than actual CVO owners. The price of stock new bikes are crazy in my opinion !! New bike hardly any chrome, ugly wheels ,grips and exhaust that is awful. That is why I'M considering a used CVO.The only thing i would change on the CVO is the exhaust.Would be my last bike purchase.

Welcome to the site from NOVA. IMO a new limited (I'm assuming a 2014 or 2015) would be a better choice than a pre 2014 CVO as there are improvements made to every aspect of the bike. But then again I am one of those riders who likes twin cooling, built in GPS with a large screen, linked brakes, etc, etc. So... :)

It's pretty crazy how much they want for a Limited. I rode one for 3 days in Feb. to Key West. Nice bike but missing an awful lot of goodies compared to the CVO. I don't think I could do it but I know what you get with the CVO.

Welcome and good luck with your decision.

That is a choice I'm glad I don't have to make. I like the CVO's for the Bling, but as Cam said there have been a bunch of improvements (or at least changes) in the 3 year gap you are talking about. Tough call.....good luck!!!

As for the bike choice, I'm leaning to the older models for personal reasons. Good luck with your choice.

Welcome to the site from The Lowcountry of South Carolina!
Choices, choices, new or used? Glad I don't have to make that decision.
I hope this may be of interest to you.
Attending a GTG is the best way to get to know the members and put a face to those screen names. Many a lasting friendship have come out of these GTG's,
So. if you want to meet people, ride some awesome roads, kick back and have fun, come to one or all of the GTG's. ( For the newbies out there, GTG = Get Together )
Make your plans now and avoid the rush. In other words, stop pondering and get a hankering and make reservations and attend.
See ya'll there.
The GTG's are in the event section of the board.

Again Welcome

Welcome from Ohio.  For your question.   They both have their pluses.  For me I can't stand the new radio.  But others love it.  But I like the vent.  Still not sold on the water cooling.  But this is all just one mans opinion.  What do you like the best?  If you don't know right down the pros and cons of each.  Consider resale if you plan on getting rid of it in a few years as well.

Again just my 2 cents.

I actually test rode a new 15 Ultra last month. Nice bike but don't care for the so called infotainment system or radio( stock radio is crap and the screen to me is more of a distraction )Not a good thing these days with the crazy cage drivers out there. I know its all about choices. The 14 CVO's are out of my price range .Not planning on re selling ,plan on keeping which ever bike for a long time. Is it better to spend $$$$ on adding the stuff you want to a new one or to spend $$ on the CVO which pretty much  has everything already on it.

I like the price of the used and the air cooled, there are many CVO ultras out there, 5K miles that bike is barely broke in.

So, I would go used and I did this past Nov, 2012 FLHXSE3 with 15K miles on it.

Oh forgot to mention, My last bike was a 1997 Electra glide Classic which I owned from 2003 till last year. So I'm not one that has to have the latest and greatest. From what I have found used 11 to 12 CVO's are anywhere between 26$ to 33$ depending on miles and condition.5000 miles to me is a new bike , I had 70,000 on my 97.

Welcome to the site  :2vrolijk_21:

You state you don't need the latest and greatest version, you also don't care for the infotainment system on the newer models --- I'm still on the fence about it myself based on my limited attempts to use it both on the showroom floor and a test ride ---from reading your post it seems that your going to add all the goodies to the new one anyway, and remember when/if you sell or trade the "extras" you installed do nothing for trade value and will only add a small percentage of the amount spent to the price you get if selling privately.

me?? I'd go with the used '12 CVO  - just my opinion of course.

Welcome from the Space Coast of Florida.  Get a Rushmore, the improvements are worth it. You can find a used 14 cvo Limited for around $32,000 you will be happy you spent the extra $5,000.
