Oil Leak ?
« on: May 19, 2007, 04:45:07 PM »

Rode for a while this AM and then started doing my 15 K service so I could install my new pure power filter. The other day I noticed some discoloration on the rear head right behind the spark plug. After todays ride it's worse, and now I can see what looks like oil. It's below the rocker box gaskets, and above the head gasket. There appears to be a crack in the head itself right behind the spark plug. Is this possible?

Take it to your dealer and ask if they can dye check it, (uses a phosfor to be seen with a black light, and if cracked will show quite well.) And yes, anything is possible.  If it is not a gasket, then I would check it before additional failure of the metal, and also discoloration will occur that is a bear to get back right also.  Some talked of to much porosity in the metal and it seeped.

I had a similar oil leak in the same spot. Porosity was the problem.  New rear cylinder took care of the problem. :2vrolijk_21:

Puzzled, I haven't done anything yet. My plan was to ride some over the upcoming Holiday weekend and then take it in as I have a large project at work that will curtail riding for a while. Mine doesn't appear to be at a gasket area. Pretty sure it's coming form the head.
