Another Compensator issue
« on: June 22, 2011, 10:46:51 AM »

Replacing a broken aftermarket drive belt ( 30t ) and found the compensator is crapped out. Another fine HD part bits the dust. What kind of QC for the pride of "Made in America".

You didn't upgrade the compensator when you did the 30T?

Like I said before, if HD was an auto manufacturer, the compensator would be a recall. For some reason they survive using a double standard- it seems for liability reasons auto makers will issue recalls for even the smallest things that could cause problems, but HD gets away with doing the opposite.

Nope, didn't know to do it and nobody mentioned it ( it was over 18 months ago). I guess the harley store says they can replace the upgrade compensator (part A) free or I can pay for the SE part. What do you guys think??

Tell them you will pay the price difference between the two parts.
Don't go with anything but the SE compensator. It is a much better unit than the stock compensator.

Pay the difference.  You'll be glad you did.    :2vrolijk_21:

Even if they don't allow you to pay the difference, ask for the one they would have installed under warranty, try to sell it on ebay, and buy the new SE compensator and have it put in.

I'm still trying to find out what the difference is between the upgrade part and the SE?
