These were taken on a modified route #3, as the War Eagle Mill was impassable at the time due to high water flood damage of the bridge.
We went south out of Fayetteville and picked up the old Highway 71 South with our first stop at Artist Point.

Just south of Artist Point, things begin to get really fun...

Just north of Mountainburg on 71, we took the cutoff to hit I-49 north.  It was short but fun...

I-49 as it goes thru the metroplex is NO fun, but the southern portion can be very beautiful...

But this was the real reason we took this stretch of I-49...

This is the only highway tunnel in Arkansas, and it's 1,600 feet long.

Needless to say, it's a real rush to drive through at 70 mph.

Next we took Hwy 74 west to Devil's Den State Park.  The approach is kind of boring until you hit the 8 switchbacks that take you down into the canyon...

That road is awesome and pretty steep, and very picturesque...

And finally we reach the bottom of the canyon, but the best is yet to come...

The water was flowing nicely over the dam and was pleasantly noisy...

It's cool that you can walk right out to the edge, and even walk across it if you like.
