Taking a Ten day trip from California to Colorado. (Richard from AZ)
Characters: Andy and Sherry, JC and Terrie, Richard, Don and Carole

Finished posting ZION photos in PICTURES at http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=74504.0

Weather is worse than forecasted in the beginning but we will "Endeavor to persevere" (Lone Watie quote). :toff:

Meeting Mr. And Mrs. AK (Andy and Sherrie) in Fremont

The blue sky is great for a ride

Picked up JC and Terrie (JCZ and Terriez) in Elk Grove.

Climbing in altitude

Temp is dropping too much

At least the snow is in the trees and not on us

Get off the mountain

Maybe further down the mountain might be better

Lucked out. Escaped a late snow. Through the tunnel.

Made it to Carson City, NV and this was our lunch dessert!

JC loves the snow?

Found an overhang from which to change a FOB battery.

Big flakes!

We made it to Fallon, NV on Hwy 50. (The Loneliest Highway). Richard (RBaker) joined us.

Richard rode up from Arizona to join our party in Fallon Friday evening.

Richard getting the ride route from JC.

Andy and Richard are early risers.

Hitting the road for a day forecasting intermittent storms and showers

More of the clouds

Desert graffiti

Giant sand dune

Getting to the colder/higher altitudes

Because of the weather being bad for my camera I am unable to take many pics. There could be hundreds more.

This storm came in from the North and the road runs East and West. None of us like riding in the snow but had to do what we had to do. Wasn't better to turn around.

Because the snow was getting too deep on the road we abandoned the ride and became stranded in Austin, NV.
Power was out on the Southern side of town. This North side restaurant let us camp out there after breakfast and the place started filling up from other snow weary travelers.

None of wanted to stay in Austin especially Andy. He had to take action so he flagged down the snow plow and the driver radioed ahead to get road conditions. We were soon on the road again.

Austin apparently has big Pumas for hunting

Made it to Ely, NV. It rained a lot but we didn't let it bother us after the snow today and yesterday.

Yep, that was what we wanted to.....but it wasn't to be.  The pictures don't even show the serious stuff we rode in......the roads got to slippery and it took both hands on the handlebars plus we all put our cameras away to keep them from getting to wet.

I was amazed that Terrie was able to ride through all of that.  Just not sure how many women would do it.  I'm proud that she stuck right with me and made it all the way. :2vrolijk_21:

The call Hwy. 50 "The Lonliest Road In America" for a reason.  You add a few passes up above 7,000 feet and a little snow and it gets real lonely.  30 seconds after a vehicle would pass, the tire path would already be turning white again and covering over.  This was the point where we decided we better not attempt to go any further.  We'd already been riding in it for three hours and we were exhausted.

The view from the back of the bikes....

and a view from the front of the bikes.  We found an old abandoned gas station that we could at least get the bikes out of the snow.....

You ever try to turn a motorcycle around on a hill like this, while the snow is coming down sideways.....

The hill that we'd just came down.  Our tire tracks in the street are already covered over.....    That's Richard up the hill in the street, with Andy standing beside him coaching on the turn around process.... it was hairy for sure......
