Title: Derby screws wtf????????? need help
Post by: bcnu53 on July 23, 2010, 09:03:11 AM
what in the world do you have to use to get the Derby cover screws out?
I have broken 3 - T27 bits so far and have not gotten one screw loose yet

I bet this is going to turn into a big deal before I get it done. I am afraid that some or all of them are going to break before I get them loose

Been there Done That and ended up drilling all the screws out and replacing them with Chrome standard allen head screws. This operation will really make you sweat because you need to drill perfectly straight and not hit the nutplate. A good pair of glasses helps!! :2vrolijk_21:

On my wifes's 09, they were all a bear.  on my 10, they came right out.

04se103 gave you some good advice.

On the 09, I got a allen bit a little larger than the stripped hole and hit it so hard with a mini sledge that I didn't care mif i drove them thru to the other side (LOL's).   Did hit them realy hard so the hex would fit in the stripped torx.

Good luck.

Others have drilled out the head, removed the cover, and then used vice grips on the remianing stud.
