2008 rear brake pads
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:29:49 PM »

Has anyone with a 2008 cvo springer know what the correct OEM part number is or the equivalent Lyndall part number is?  I ordered a set of 7196-Z Plus because they looked exactly like the ones pictured on H-D's website for the 2008 springer. Trouble is they don't look like the ones on my bike.  H-D's P/N is 42298-08.  I've seen where 07 springer owners have used the Lyndall 7196 pads and I didn't think there was a difference between the 07 and 08 as far as the rear pads were concerned, but I'm wrong.  The 08 looks like Lyndall's P/N 7257-Z but I hate to order again without knowing for sure. Any thoughts?  :nixweiss:

I was under the impression that the lyndall pads were considered "dustless" as compared to the OEM pads.  I've got a new pair of Lyndall 7196-Z Plus rear pads if you know anybody that might be interested.  Paid $50 for them but will let a brother have them for shipping charges.

The 42298-08 H-D pad cross references to the 7257 Lyndall pad.

As for the dust claim, in my experience the Lyndalls are almost dust free compared to the Harley pads I've had over the years.  Of course no pad is actually dust free, even ceramics, but the H-D pads I've had seem to turn the rims black just sitting still. The Lyndalls are also quieter and a little easier on the rotors, and have a more progressive "feel".  Just stick with the street formulations (Z+).
