2009 CVO Riser simple conversion
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:26:26 PM »

I found a thread on this forum or another but I am unable to locate it. It was for the swapping out risers on a 2009 CVO and I just wanted to elaborate more on this.

Some background on what I wanted. I am 5'8" and at some point I think I might change my bars out on my 2009 but I sort of like the stock bars with one problem.... at my height I was leaning down a little so I can imagine other (not vertical impaired) riders would like a little raise. As you are aware finding risers for this bike is kind of a pain if not impossible (I never found any) that fit the stock bars.

So Like from the previous post that I found I order a set of 2008 CVO risers (studs) to install on my 2009 ($56) from a local Harley Dealer.  I went to http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?make=hdmc and researched the items I needed to avoid confusion.  Look up the handle bar assy. (2008) and part 56968-07 and then look up the 2009 and you will see the difference.

I installed these new studs (risers) and gained about 1" to 1 1/2" of rise and its way more comfortable and allows me to rotate the bars. If you decide to install the tach from the earlier models you will need to do this as well so you don't hit your tank.

I will try and attach some photos.

so in short I raised my bars up a little, got some comfort, saved my stock bars and cables and it took about 30 mins and around $110 for this mod.

Hope this helps someone else.

I didn't know that there was that much difference in the risers from an 08 to 09.  I kinda wish mine were another inch or two taller on my 08.  Welcome to the site.  Why not go to the introductions section and introduce yourself to everybody?  It's always great to have contributions from people that post pictures!   ;D

Not much difference (1/2") 07-08 have tachs and with the risers on 09 it will hit tank. I wish my bike had a tach :(

From the picture it looks like the 09 has a little more rise on the handlebars than the 08 does.  Shape is the same just more rise.  I'm wondering if that might be the solution for me to get my bars up and back about an inch.  I really don't need much to make it what I think would be more comfortable. What about your cables/hoses?  Are they too tight when turning full lock? Just asking because of how your clutch hose looks.

Not sure if the Bars on the 08 and 09 are the same. The solution would not work for you because the 08 already has the extended studs below the main body of the riser.

No, I was talking about changing out the handlebars for some 09 bars, not the risers.

Hi Guys,

Just reading your thread and thought I may be able to help out.

I own a 2008 and 2009 CVO Springer.

Fitted to the 2009 Springer some 2008 bars , risers and tacho. A lot better and more comfortable to ride now..

Did not need to change the cables after the fitout.. The tacho wiring harness is tucked away under the fuel tank which made the installation quite simple..

Also added a chrome downtube clamp to the bike which makes the cables move more freely without bending when the bars are turned..

Also added another cable clamp (from the front brake Caliper) which comes from the 2008 on the Left side front Rigid fork. This is a better way to keep the cable secure on the 2009 than the way it comes from the Factory. It is a standard fit on the 2008..

Below is the 2009 with the 2008 bars and tacho fitted..

ANOTHER 2008 PHOTO

Note how flat the 2008 bars are compared to the 2009 at the start of this thread..

hi, I search risers for my softail springer cvo 2009. I saw your picture and it's what I need. I go on your site that you say but I don't find the number of the piece. Can you tell me the number for the risers. I appreciate, thank you

What torque specs did you use on the 2 riser bolts and the 4 riser cap bolts?

Hi,

I did not use a torque wrench on those bolts. It was just a "feel by hand" install.

You will be glad you installed the longer risers. I am also glad I changed out the 2009 bars as well. The 2008 Springer bars I installed are a lot nicer feel..

Best regards,
