Any "Stone Cold Blue" FXR2's out there?
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:33:45 AM »

It occurred to me that even though we talk about the rarity of the Blue FXR3's, to my knowledge, we've never had an owner of a Blue FXR2 on this board.  I've been here since December of 2003 and I can't recall one even visiting, much less becoming a Regular here.

I've only seen one blue "2" on the road and it was last Spring down here.  I was in the car and going somewhere (couldn't chase them down) but the bike had two up heading north on US1 near my home.  They had no luggage--apparently weren't traveling, but I know that Snowbirds sometimes trailer or ship their bikes down for the season.  Only seen it that once.

Anyway, does anybody out there know anybody with a blue FXR2?  Ever see them around?

Mike in April of 2005 I was at my local dealership and there was a Stone Cold Blue FXR2 in the lobby at the Service Center there.....just getting a bit of work done on it, as it turns out it was right before I purchased my Arresting Red FXR2.  I just happened to be in the parts department and happened to walk through the door and there it was, the Owner of it was standing there so we took a few moments to talk.....that was before I really came to this website of course....and he wasn't that warm about exchanging numbers, one of those feelings you get, a bit reserved.......I told him I was looking to purchase an FXR2, so we had a conversation for about 10 minutes....he was a nice enough guy.....

Like you I hadn't really seen a Stone Cold Blue FXR2 yet, while I had seen a couple of FXR2 Arresting Reds, and of course had seen the FXR3 green (buddy owns that one so easy to see) and I had seen the yellow pearl and tangerine FXR4's at dealerships.....but the FXR2 Stone Cold Blue was pretty exciting to see.....The "HD Decal"  Harley Davidson is simply painted on in a "flat" type color and doesn't "ghost" like the "Arresting Red's "HD Decal" Harley Davdison and the "Stone Cold Blue" color has a bit more "red" in it making it more of a "violet" color than a deep royal blue/purple....while it was exciting to see it....and given there are only 275 of them in the US, I would certainly enjoy owning one...[smiles] I find the "Arresting Red" candy red with the "ghost" "HD Decal" Harley Davidson to be a bit more "Striking" to my eyes....

I like you hope we get an Owner of the Stone Cold Blue to pop in and join us all here.....

Even though that bike resides in a community 7 miles from me I have never seen the bike or the Owner since......

Regards,

Tim

Says Huntington. Wonder if that's the Huntington near me? He says he's from the left coast and moved to the right coast. Could be. :confused5:

He's never been on since the site's been revamped. :nixweiss:

Which is it?  Stone Cold Blue or Cold Stone Blue?  Have never knowingly seen one in person no matter which it is.  Still only lust after the red one.

Never mind; just checked CVO history on the Harley website.  Stone Cold Blue.

Hi All

Yea I'm still here..

After seeing this topic sit for a couple of days is it possible that I am the only one on this site with a Stone Cold Blue 2??? It would be nice if there is anyone else out there that they would reply and maybe post a picture. It is always nice to see and hear what someone else has done to their bike and be able to see how it looks.  I can't say much though I am more of a lurker myself. I would probably post more but I don't have the knowledge that you all have, although I am learning a great deal from all of you. THANK YOU!!!

This is my first bike and have owned it for 2 years now. Bought the bike in Colorado with 7000 miles and all original. Have installed Hooker staggered pipes, carb kit and of air cleaner. Hope to maybe do some motor work maybe next winter (head work, cam, ignition)

Happy Thanksgiving

Pete~~~

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!!!  Great to see you post and share with us.....so as I reflect on seeing the Stone Cold Blue FXR2 a few years ago, and given that you said you purchased your FXR2 in Colorado, I am curious which city the bike was purchased from.....there simply aren't that many FXR2's, FXR3's, or FXR4's in the State of Colorado......so of course curious minds wonder?   By the way you aren't in Colorado now are you? (curious about this too, lol)

As for posting.....I am glad you have and personally as I am sure we all hope that you will continue.....however I have a buddy that loves to "lurk" as well.....and he has his reasons so I get that......it's always the "quiet ones" as logic would have it, so it seems, that provide us all with the most indepth learning.....I hope you will offer us all your insight when so inspired......

Also it would be great to see you post 5-7 photos or more of course of your Stone Cold Blue FXR2, my photo album for the Stone Cold Blue is pretty limited....after all there are only 275 of you "guys/gals" originally out there......hopefully you can throw us out some more for all of our personal albums......

It's great that you mention the FXR2 as being your first "bike" I would have owned one fewer bike had it been my first one as well.....I went first to a 2003 Dyna Low Rider to a 2002 RKC to a 1999 FXR2 and then sold the Dyna without much hesitation at all.....and feel these two bikes have everything I need for the "fun of a lifetime".

Have you toured with your bike yet?  Have you thought about touring with it?  Why did you purchase the bike in the first place? How many miles are now on your bike?

Regards,

Tim

Hmmmm. So Tim saw a blue FXR2 in Colorado in 2005, and Pete says he bought his Blue FXR2 from someone in Colorado and has had it about two years now.  Could be the same bike?

Suits me--any means to get another active FXR member here. ;)

I found the bike looking at used bikes on H-D website and bought it from High Country H-D in Frederick Colorado. No I don't live there I am in Pa.

Have you toured with your bike yet?  Have you thought about touring with it?  Why did you purchase the bike in the first place? How many miles are now on your bike?

I hate to say it but I have only put about 1200 miles on it the last 2 summers, spent most of this summer working on my house. I have back problems and long rides are probably not an option for me but this coming summer I hope to spend more time on it and see how I feel.
[/color]

I have to say I never had the desire to have a bike until about 4 years ago. Seeing more and more harleys on the road and people I know having them it is safe to say that bug bit me. My buddy has the arresting red 2 and have always loved the looks of it. Harley is the only bike I wanted....  Started looking around at used ones but the prices I thought were kinda high so i thought maybe I would get a new softail standard and then I would have a new bike, (with warranty), and start with a clean slate to modify to my own liking. Searching the H-D website I came across this bike, called about it and made them an offer ($10,000.00) that they probably would not have accepted but since their sales person didn't call me back I had to make another call to them and lucky for me one of the owners answered the phone this time. She was not very happy that no one returned my call and they accepted my offer. Pretty good deal I thought????

Here it is on showroom floor.

Pete:  Your buddy with the red '2 wouldn't be omgtkk from Collegeville, PA would it?  If not, be sure to let him know about this website.  The more the merrier.  And thanks for the sotry of your purchase.

[edit to add]

Nope, probably not I guess.  Just did a Mapquest and you guys are halfway across the state from each other.  Still, tell your buddy about this site.

Tim, please pardon me for jumping the line on your conversation.

Pete...again you have a beautiful bike there. I just wanted to quickly say I think ya got a STEAL at 10k from the dealer at 2 years ago. I paid 12k for my Fxr4 2 years ago; so, I'd say ya did really good  :2vrolijk_21:

I was also wondering since you have a bad back if you have shopped around for a different seat. I have total hip replacements for each of my hips and I haven't been on more than 150 mile ride on mine either. I have been looking at the La Pera and the Mustang Pillow Cushion seats as a possible buy for any future longer rides but still looking for input from others as a way to soften the load on the back and hips. Anyway, my apologizes for buttin in on your conversation and glad to see ya here more often  :2vrolijk_21:....Blaine...........Semper Fi Sean!  (Florida Marine)

There's something kind of cool about seeing a FXR2 on a HD showroom floor.

I really wish I had taken a pic of mine on the floor of the indy shop where I got it.

Hi All

Hoist asked Wonder why we can't find more BLUE2's? Does make ya wonder why there aren't more on here :nixweiss: The purple color of these bikes may not be all the appealing to a lot of people so is it possible that they have been repainted or had new tins installed then they get sold and people may have no idea what they really have??? I like how the color changes with different lighting and the fact that I can go just about anywhere knowing it is the only one like it. Would be nice to see some other ones though and see how they look with different mods.

Thanks again... No need to apologize

Yea that stock seat just doesn't cut it for comfort. I have been looking and reading just like you but I'm afraid of spending all that money and end up with something I hate..lol  If I find anything I will be sure to let you know and if you would do the same it would be much appreciated.

I like how the color changes with different lighting and the fact that I can go just about anywhere knowing it is the only one like it. Would be nice to see some other ones though and see how they look with different mods.

Yep.  Even though I have never gotten more than a passing glimpse of a blu '2, I would guess that the paint used to formulate "Stone Cold Blue" contains many color elements that change in the sun like "Arresting Red".  I'd like to get a good look at one, myself.  As for modifications, I know some CVO FXR's were repainted out of choice and thusly are no longer recognizeable as a CVO bike.  Up to the owner I suppose.  Here are some shots of a blue FXR2 with a wide glide front, CVO Wide Glide headlight faring, and bobbed rear fender, all painted Stone Cold Blue.  I actually traded e-mails with the owner up in Minnesota last Spring (I think).

Maybe we can get Pete to post a few more shots of his bike for all of us FXR photoaholics....lol!!

Pete, you GOT AN EXCELLENT DEAL 2 years ago for $10,000.  well actually almost three years ago.... :2vrolijk_21:

I have walked that HD Show Room floor many of time, it's just outside Longmont CO which is a bigger community than "Fredrick" but you are right it's considered "Fredrick" High Country Harley Davidson.

Pete you might want to look at the FXR3 seat which is quite comfortable to some of us here.

I still wonder if that bike is the one I saw at the dealership closer to my home, it wouldn't be unusual since people trade their bikes within a variety local dealerships along what we call the "front range" here in Colorado if they have something they feel they want more.....I guess I'll never know...lol

Yes, and let your buddy know about this site that owns the Arresting Red FXR2 as Mike stated.

Hey Blaine, we could always strap on a recliner for you on that FXR4, there has to be enough talent around here to gittter done...... :bananarock:

Cool!...How about a Black Lazy Boy with built in heater, massage vibration, and wrap around windshield...Have it shipped to me if ya would and I'll have it mounted in time for the first FXR gathering when and if it happens... :2vrolijk_21:  ;D            Semper Fi Sean!  (Florida Marine)

Stone Cold, where in PA? Unless you're all the way out west, we can't be too far from each other. We should try to meet up somwhere next Spring. Maybe I can drag George out there with us too with his FXR4. How about at Bill's Old Bike Barn? Is Bloomsberg near you? Right off of I-80. Excellent Museum! :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the pictures Red..

Nice looking bike.

I can't get a picture that picks up the true color of the bike. My pictures always make the bike look more blue than it actually is.

Anyone have any photo tips???

Pete~~~~

Thanks for sharing your photos....they are going into my FXR2's FXR3's and FXR4's photo file......very nice photos....

As for your question above.....your point is exactly as my point way back up there somewhere lol up above when I was speaking about the color of Stone Cold Blue.....there is a lot more "red" in the color than you first realize making the bike appear much more "violet" than a "royal blue/purple" that you would think of  when seeing a description like "Stone Cold Blue"......There isn't anything you can do, for some reason all digital cameras when seeing a color such as above, the digital cameras I am aware of seem to do their own thing.....but then again....it's no different than the "Minnesota Vikings" their purple is always slightly different in person than on TV as well....in fact I would say the color of your bike is the same "tint" of purple as what the LA Lakers "purple is along with the Vikings which would be great comparisons.....more of a "violet"
....ok I have  :beatdeadhorse: this topic enough....lol.

If it's like other CVO paint, you gotta catch it in good sunlight to get all the different shades out of it, depending on at what angle the sun hits it. Should be able to pickup the purplish that way. ;)

Someone mentioned red Krylon.  It'd be a solution to all this angst and worry.

Damn right.  Have on cabinet in the garage filled with Mobil 1, Redline, ATF (for primary), and cans and cans of red Krylon.  The dog knows not to set too still if close to that cabinet.  Her little butt will end up red too.

Welcome aboard ekip! Always nice to see another CVO FXR owner join us. We're having an FXR GTG in June, 2010. We've got a few members coming in from CO too. I hope you think about joining us. The info on it is in the link in my Signature here. Enjoy!!! :2vrolijk_21: ;)

Just picked up this Stone Cold Blue FXR2 with 11,000 miles.  Need to get a badlander seat, sideplates, mini sissy bar, and correct driver pegs to get it back to original.  My 3rd FXR and best yet!

Nice looking blue 2!  Some of the parts you're talking about are getting tough to find.  For example, the pegs have been discontinued, but your dealer should still be able to find some in stock somewhere if he doesn't have any.  The other stuff you mentioned is out there, but might require some patience and hunting to find.  Good luck! :2vrolijk_21:

It really is.   Just the way it sits.  I know it's not 'stock', but still looks great.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder

Re: Any "Stone Cold Blue" FXR2's out there?

Hi RedFXR2
I have a gorgeous collectible Stone Cold Blue 1999 FXR2 now with 6000 original miles on it.  I ride it occasionally around the city here in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I bought it with less than 2000 miles on it.  Apparently it's one of the first 276 Stone Cold Blue FXR2s built by the MOCO. They weren't exported outside the USA. I was told that the Motor Company was testing the waters with their new CVO programme so they didn't export the 1999s, at least the Stone Cold Blue ones. I'm not sure about the Arresting Red. This one comes from a Kentucky dealership. It belonged to the owner. He had it in his showroom for some time.  I'll try to send a few pics if you want. I had a nice video when I bought it but it seems to have vanished  from my iPhone.
Cheers

I’ve had this one for a couple of years. Took going through multiple CVO,s to figure out this was the ride for me. Love it and don’t plan to ever sell it. Maybe add a nice CVO RK down the road.

G'day!

Here's my beautiful 1999 FXR2 which was privately imported to Australia from California in 2017. 16,000 miles, completely original except for a Mikuni carb and Drag Specialties seat.

I have already dropped some Progressive springs in with 15W oil and have Race Tech G3-S shocks and Leather Pros retro bags on the way.

This is my second FXR and easily the best Harley I've owned. She's an absolute joy to ride, just a ton of fun.

Cheers,
