Noise
« on: August 24, 2019, 11:16:34 AM »

I rode my Mako Shark 190 miles to Shreveport (Bossier City) from Dallas, ride was great, on the way back we stopped for gas about 20 miles from home. As I was coming off the clutch in first gear I heard a metal sound coming from the derby cover area. I pulled the clutch back in and it stopped, as I let out it did it again and once I was fully out it stopped. I never heard it again.

I just got the bike serviced 1000 miles...any ideas?

I’m riding to California in 2 weeks. I want to have an idea what’s going on at least a vague idea before I go to the dealer.

Was it a high pitched screeching sound. I had a 2013 Road King that made a high pitch screeching sound but only if I took off kind of aggressively. If I eased into it everything was fine. Turned out the clutch basket was cracked.

my 13 RG (with a bandit clutch) made a screech noise occasionally when engaging when it was cold... after it was warmed up no noise,  opened it up and looked at it and found nothing. rode it for about 30k + miles  before trading it  :nixweiss: maybe check the oil level … only takes 10 minutes to pop the cover off and inspect every thing, and I reused the gasket several times, both derby cover and primary with no leaks.

I know on the twin cam bikes there was something called tranny rattle. At least that is what the dealer called it.  ;) My 2013 CVO Road King would do it and it was only after it was hot or warmed up. It would clank or rattle while idling in neutral after warming up but if I pulled the clutch in it would pretty much stop.

Not sure about the newer bikes?
