New York Beer TrailNew York State Brewers were wondering how to get the news out about the fantastic oatmeal stouts, India pale ales and even bitters they were concocting in the bevy of breweries that had sprung up statewide. In 2006 they came up with a catchy slogan, "Think NY, Drink NY," and launched a Beer Trail, modeled on the ubiquitous wine trails that slither through many regions of the nation.
As the first state with a beer trail, New York points the way to a deliciously hoppy future, while at the same time honoring the state's rich brewing heritage, which dates back to the 1630s. Nearly 60 breweries and brew pubs now dot the handsome landscape of the Empire State.
The Web site includes a brochure that will lead the thirsty on a state-wide romp, from the Syracuse Suds Factory to the Flying Bison Brewing Co. Sadly, this trail is far too long for most voyagers to cover in a single trip. Hit one of the clusters surrounding hops-loving cities like Buffalo, Syracuse or New York—and then plan to do it again next year.
