Can anyone tell me why I have read about folks replacing the filter that comes with the Stage 1 with the K&N replacement?  What is wrong with the one HD is suppling?  Did they upgrade this filter for the newer kits?  Thanks

In short, HD's SE air filter is doo doo. It is paper based, not cloth like the K&N. They used to be K&N elements, but not anymore.

It used to be, at least on the 07's. I don't know if that changed with the electronic throttle. Hopefully someone else will have a definite answer.

The HD0800 filter works with the SE backplate on everything up to but not including the 2008 models.  At the present time K&N doesn't list a replacement filter for the FLHRSE4, but I would assume that will change.  Give them a shout at:
