New IE question
« on: January 04, 2007, 03:04:02 PM »

So how do you turn off that stupid window that opens "do you want to allow this webpage to access your clipboard?"  or some such wording?  Everytime I post, I get that stupid thing.

Found this on a IE7 Newsgroup....
"Internet Options, Security tab, Custom button in Internet Zone, scroll down to Scripting and Allow clipboard access. Apply and OK"

However I would be concerned about overall allowing this as some websites may use information stored on clipboard for things other then you may want. [smiley=nervous.gif]

John, what you're describing is an access thing.  Go to "Tools" up on top of the Explorer screen, then choose "Internet Options," then "Security," then the "Custom Level" button within the security screen.  Once inside there go way down toward the bottom of the list to the "Scripting" section."  Inside that section find "Progammatic Clipboard Access" and enable it.

Like all this there are pros and cons to having this on.  I had mine on for other reasons so never saw the message you're describing relative to the site here.  But that should fix your problem.

Also that box is defaulted to the "don't allow" button, so you can just hit enter and keep on going, don't have to take your hands off keyboard.

This is something that was allowed by IE6 by default.  IE7 forces the request.  I've got one circumstance that requires it be on anyway.

To me actually, now that this request forces me to think about, the question becomes why does the website ever need to access my clipboard anyway?  Neal, you got something you can turn off there?

Just for grins I just changed the IE7 setting back to its default position.  Sure enough, everyoen that jumps to IE7 is probably seeing the error message for every single post they make.  Even it if is just one extra click that would get to be a pain in the arse.

But since I'm trying have a beer [smiley=drink.gif] in one hand and the remote in the other, minimizing keystrokes is essential!!!!! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=apple.gif]

For those wondering, setting it to "disable" stops the popup.  We'll see if it makes a difference for anything else.

Dood- interesting reading.

Neal you may want to take a look at that link.

Nothing is said about what occurs when it's disabled, only enabled.  I've disabled mine and so far I haven't noticed a problem.

All of you that are turning this feature off remember that this setting will more then likely effect all webpages you view. You may want to wait and see what Neal can do (see here) with this [highlight]trusted[/highlight] site before disabling that feature.

I've stayed on IE 6 to avoid compatibility issues or whatever else happens when you change things you don't know too much about. Well, maybe enough to be dangerous with. Why would I want to switch to IE 7? Will it offer any benefits that I can't get with IE 6 that I would actually care about using? I've hidden it from Windows Update so it doesn't keep trying to get me to download it. My company has asked us not download it on their computers because it will screw with some of their proprietary programs, blah, blah, blah. What's the deal? Does it really matter what browser you'reusing? Somehow I think IE 7 must be better for Microsoft. What does it do for the guy that likes to search for motorcycle stuff (and maybe make a few posts ::) )? Thanks. ;) Hoist!  8-)
