Hi,

I was invited to go to the All Star game next weekend with one of our vendors.  Never been to Ottawa, never been to a All Star game period, let alone hockey my 2nd favorite sport.  Big Blackhawks fan living in Detroit (sucks), kind of goes in hand with being a Hawks fan..sorry.  Anyone go to the event before, is it worth the effort and expense?  Anyone from the blog going to be there?

Ottawa is an awesome city, great food, lots of sights and history. In the center of town is a place called the Byward Market... about ten square blocks with about 130 restaurants, bars and cafes.

There are five universities there and three or four of them have nursing programs... used to spend a lot of time there pre- marriage!

if you can get into it http://www.brookstreet.ca/ is a nice place, not near downtown ottawa but not to far from the arena the visiting teams usually stay there.

Ottawa is awesome.  If you have the time, try to skate the Rideau Canal, the world's largest "skating rink" (my quotes).  The Aviation museum is also worth a stop.  Winterlude doesn't start until Feb 3, but that's a cool event if you can make it.  If you're going with your significant other, Canada's largest Ikea store is there. <grin>

I've been lucky enough to have attended close to a dozen All-Star games over the years and can tell you it is well worth the effort to attend.

Electrifying atmosphere, especially for a hockey fan, even if you are a Hawks fan!
BTW, I still have my Bobby Hull gloves from way back in my minor hockey league days.

Go, have fun and enjoy the beautiful sights of our Capital City, but don't forget your skates... The Rideau Canal may be frozen over by then and you can go for a 5 mile skate!
