Did you know your throttle body sensor is the same that is found on some GM vehicles? They can be picked up at your local parts store for about 1/2 what the dealer charges. It's a Delphi part.

Denso Manufacturing in Maryville TN makes the Starter and has for years.  Denso is the 4th largest supplier of car parts in the worlds, use to be owned by Toyota, but in 49 became its own company.

Throttle bodies form Magneti-Morelli and Delphi etc., engineers and management currently at HD cut their teeth in the auto industry. The brake light switch on my 1975 Superglide was the same as those on 1957 Thunderbirds. Overlap has helped the machine evolve, and I prefer using my thumb over my foot, ankle, knee, & leg to start them.  ;)

Hmmm...do I detect a Ford vs Chevy debate brewing here???
Wheres all those Dodge people at??? Keeping suspiciously quiet for some reason.

I guess we can be thankful the part said Ford and not Honda, Nissan or Toyota...I think.

I'll take some parts from the only US car maker that didn't require a Govt bailout to survive.  BTW, HD may be better off letting Ford do more...like painting the CVOs and making the Infotainment system.

The FoMoCo has been like any other company that's been around over a hundred years; sometimes good, sometimes great, and sometimes not so great.  I spent over 35 years of my life as an employee and got to see all the warts as well as the good stuff, and I'd say that overall the good outweighed the bad.  After all, they are still in business when so many others are not, and they still have the best selling pickup truck for 38 years and counting.  Anyone who claims they are junk is dissing a whole hell of a lot of people who keep buying them.  And don't forget, where GM got billions from the taxpayers AND walked away from many more billions in debt, Ford hocked everything including the iconic names and trademarks to borrow the money to be able to avoid bankruptcy.  While Ford was busy paying off those loans, GM was free to start fresh and spend a lot of our money on new models.  Not exactly what I'd call a level playing field, but you don't see Ford management crying about it or even mentioning it in public.

In my "real world" i deal with all the different Auto manufactures foreign and domestic and Ford is on the same level as the other domestics. The US has to deal with the American unions (not making ANY political statement here) which does put them at a disadvantage against the foreign's especially the Asian brands. I will say that I have seen a major improvement in quality with all the manufacturers in the last 5 years. Doesn't mean they are perfect by any stretch whether it is a $20,000 Domestic or a $200,000 German car. Easy to talk about but doesn't help when it is your own personal vehicle that breaks..

well, i can say that my 'other' vehicle is a ford pickup.  had it since 2003.  never broken down, never had to be towed anywhere.  only had 1 repair done under warranty, the ac compressor.  still worked, but made some noise so they replaced it.  the only problem i have with it is i can't open the rear doors (supercab).  otherwise, gets me where i need to go.

I thought GM's bailout was essentially a loan that was paid back (like in half the time they were given to pay it back)?

a lot was stock - and there was giant pressure to sell the stock

its not exactly obvious how the stock sales go, maybe somebody else knows where to get the figures.

Yes and no on that.  I am a huge GM fan.  The payback was set up in such a way they could claim it was all paid back.  It was a big loss, as it was a sell back of stock worth much less money.

Taxpayers recouped about $39 billion of the $50.1 billion pumped into GM in late 2008 and 2009 as the Bush and Obama administrations tried to save the car maker from collapse after years of mismanagement brought to a head by a crippling credit crisis and economic recession.

So we the tax payer got short changed just over 11 Billion dollars in the payback.

Like I said I am a GM fan, have a 14 Stingray, 80 Corvette and 06 GMC truck

My last 4 PU's were Ford or Dodge. I'd buy a Chevy but when I'm ready to buy they won't deal. I bought a new Ford F-150 supercrew year and half ago, Ford knocked $12,000.00 off the sticker, Chevy would only do a grand at that time. For me it's all about the money.  Many suppliers work with the big 3 so in the end they're not that much different in terms of component reliability.

Although Ford did not get a bailout in the same sense that Chrysler and GM did, the FoMoCo was not completely devoid of US government assistance.  They lobbied for the bailout to GM and Chrysler as well as requesting upwards of 9 billion in a LOC form the feds.

And less we forget, Mother Harley had the Feds help them a few years ago as well. In 2008 they got over 2 billion in federal loans and then there was the Tariff on imported heavy weight bikes in the early 80's.

My first car was a 1960 Corvair coupe.  Used it to get to the University for a few years.  It had a (gas) heater to warm the inside of the car..........if it started blowing cold air,  you were about to run out of gas.

Don't ask me how I know that.

My Best Friend owned a "Cosworth" Vega, twin cam engine, racing stripes on the hood, What a piece !! ?? Wasn't worth a damm in the snow driving across the golf course back in High School 38 years ago, but hell, what great memories !! LOL

My brother-in-law stuffed a small block in his Vega station wagon after the aluminum engine melted as they had a habit of doing. He had to "massage" the firewall and take out the heater box but he got that engine stuffed in there. That thing smoked the other cars at the drags. I can't remember how many rear ends he exploded in that thing until he got one to live under there!

Yeah they all rusted within two years.. In fact gm replaced both front fenders one time for free. If I remember correctly there was a water pocket trapped under the top portion of the fenders where all the rust originated.

The Vega was designed to be GM's "disposable car".  It even had aluminum cylinders that were only good for one shot. Needles to say the concept never cought on and the kids were buying them cheap and swaping out small block 350's in them.  :P
