2013 FLHTCUSE8 40,000 miles stock except for exhaust and fulsac tune, no problems and way quieter than my 2012 103 ever dreamed of being!

30,000 miles on one before I did the lifters to avoid the grenade.  20,000 on the next one before the lifter grenade went off...while at the dealer...to have that chirping noise checked out.  Immediate shutdown prevented damage to rest of engine, but had to replace cams, lifters, and pushrods.

I only have 20K but she still runs good. I always get worried when I hear the lifter stories but then others seem to be OK for many miles.

x

So far, all is good on my 2015 - BUT, it is early at 18,000 miles.
.
Two engine replacements on my previous 2009 - first one at 20,000 under warranty and second one at 50,000 under ESP..
.
I have 6 months left on my 2015 warranty - thinking about the ESP, but not yet committed.

2013 Road King with 22000. I had the lifters replaced at 15k as a precaution, but the old ones looked perfect. Bike is stage 1 other than that, but going to stage 4 when I get back from vacation. I will say even with the lifters my valvetrain has some noise. Heard it was the nature of those cams.

CVO's and the others have different tire sizes, wheel sizes.
Then there are 2 different manufactures of tires.......

97K - Now that is reasonable to me!

I asked earlier because my SE 103 just turned 80k. Only cam tensioners upgraded. Never had the heads off. My goal is 100k before refreshing the top end.

40k on replacement motor - original's lifter took a dump at 23k wiping it out.  So far so good (I think and hope) on the replacement motor.  Been thinking maybe I should change the lifters just because they've been a source of failure.  But I'm hoping the replacement motor from July 2013 may have the newer Screamin' Eagle lifters.  And why should I shell out several hundred $$ when I have an ESP in case a problem develops?  Anyway I'd be afraid to use non-moco lifters because of the ESP  So i'll probably just leave well enough alone unless and until something develops.

Entirely different animal (lucky for us... even though the CVO 103's had their own problems concerns)... the CVO 110's have known (documented) problems and I think the OP is looking for empirical data associated with failures/nonfailures of those motors.

Mine has done 70k without any problems or alterations. Only a little more fuel when I bought it new. Still enough power and running very smooth.

Unfortunately I totaled the bike in Sweden last month.

Just 24,000 on my '12. Pulled the lifters to check them. Three were fine, one was starting to have trouble on the roller face. Cam looked ok so in went S&S premiums. Hopefully avoided catastrophe. Will check them in a few thousand. If your engine has the suspect lifters, I would advise check them. Pretty simple with adjustable push rods.

26,000 on 07 flhtcuse2. It had the recall for the heads in 08. Also had an exhaust cracking on the rear pipe at that time. Nothing other than normal maintenance.  I recently replaced the lifters just in case. I didn't notice anything obviously worn...

Surely, there's a typo there!  I thought I was hard on tires!  Man, there's something bad wrong here!  Never heard of such a situation!  Later--HUBBARD

On my 2011 CVO Softail Convertible the first engine did 24,500 miles before failing. The cause of the failure was not identified. It was replaced under warranty. The replacement engine failed last week also after 24,500 miles. I'd like to know the cause but as the warranty has now run out, I don't think it's worth paying to find out.

48,000 on my 2008 but has cost me plenty on engine top end, cams, lifters, chain tensioners, compensators, and more. At age 78, too old to invest in a new one and will just keep throwing dollars at the 2008 to keep it in road condition. Don't plan anymore long trips anyway.

I have 3000 miles on my new SERG. Loud tapping at idle and again at 2800 rpm. Dealer said he can't hear anything. This is my second 110 and 4th Harley. This the first I have heard this noise. Sounds like EITMS is on at idle but it has been disabled. Sounds like a bad compensator creating chain slack. Anyone had similar problem?

So you're on your 4th Harley and 2nd 110", so you sure as hell know what's normal and what's not, and the dealer can't hear anything! >:(  Classic, dealership response :D!

I called up and talked to customer service and started a case number. They stated that they rely on their mechanics and of course stood behind their decision. But stated it was on record and will help if anything happen to have this documented. I bought all 4 of my bikes at the same dealer and funny that this started after my 1000 mile ck up at which time I put on a header and a SERT and of course they changed the fluid in all three holes. Noise does not stop when I pull in the clutch and doesn't happen until it gets hot.

My 2011 CVO RoadGlide Ultra

Definitely not still buttoned up.

Precautionary change of inner cam bearings, chain tensioners, lifters and valve springs at 16k.
Rebore, pistons and valve seals at 22k due to litre of oil per 700 miles usage.
For the first 3k after rebore at normal riding oil usage was negligible.
It's now at 28k and just beginning to sniff the oil again, about 1/2 litre over the last 2k, mostly at hot weather motorway speeds (70-80mph).
Holding my breath for what it will do over the next 2k at normal riding pace.

But still a pleasure to own.  JohnT

Hate to hear this but glad yer covered with an ESP. The moco will want to replace yer engine so they can inspect the old one, thats pretty good mileage out of a unmolested 110". Guess the esp is separate from HD so the less expensive option will be chosen, or will it?

Good Luck

The ESP I currently have is my second Harley ESP on this bike it is an extended ESP as long as you purchase it prior to your bike having 75,000 miles. The only difference on this one is the $50. warranty fee on tires. My previous Harley warranty paid for itself in 6 tires, 1 stator, oil cooler, 2 sets of saddlebag latches and throttle wire. That being said, I looked at the cost of 3 more years of extended warranty, with the age of the bike and the likelihood of something major failing, considering the miles and it was a simple decision for me.

35k on my 07. Spent 3 trips to the dealer before the first 8k miles but since the last for the leak it has been real good. I did do woods cams, new lifters, bearings and pushrods after the last dealer visit and then had Doc tune it for me.  She has been running good.

Update

15 SERGU has 42,694.  Heard a loud metallic clank yesterday on way to Fayetteville AR. Then the motor sounded like metal marbles in it.  Shut her down right away.  Pretty sure I dropped a valve.

Got the bike home late last night, on the way to the dealer shortly.  12 days out of warranty.
Headed out for Bikes Blues and BBQ yesterday morning.  Beautiful day, great temperatures.  I taking all secondary roads, 280 miles into the trip, there was a loud metallic clank.  Then it sounded like the motor was full of ball bearings and making no power.  Pulled off immediately.  I'm pretty sure it dropped a valve.  I was on the 2015 SERGU, with only 42,694 miles on the bike and 12 days out of factory warranty.

Hopefully a lifter didn't implode in the case as in my situation, still waiting since 8/31 due to needing engine cases stamped with VIN cost in excess of 5900. and will increase but I am covered because I extended the ESP.

Update on this. Five weeks ago, couple of weeks after this post. One lifter went, finished up having to replace lifters, cams (std 255) (could have got away with one cam but as I was in there!), cam support plate and oil pump did inner needle rollers again at same time. About 300 miles now since the replacement going good again. masochist Moi!?

The Harley and Davidson's story just been shown on Television in the UK. Enjoyed the yarn but.... who produced that? Was it the moco.

Still like the bike though.

I purchased the ESP for 7 years, then I extended it for 3 more years. Here is where it gets tricky; you must renew  and or extend it before the motorcycle reaches 75,000 miles. My motorcycle was going to be over the 75,000 miles prior to the original ESP expiration date so I canceled it prior to reaching 75,000 miles and applied for a new 3 year ESP which I received, there is a 300 mile waiver before the ESP will take affect. Also, I received a check back for the unused portion of the original ESP. This ESP had a $50. deductible on tires.

My 2015 CVO Road Glide with 18,000 miles on it is in the shop right now getting a new engine due to crankshaft bearing failure. Of course, I'm out on the road traveling so the nearest Dealer was Thunderbird Harley in Albuquerque, NM--I'm stuck for 3 or 4 extra days. Is this a common occurrence with these 110 cuin motors?

You ought to ask the repairing dealer what they will give you in trade with your new motor. Then get a new one with a new 2 year warranty and be on your way.

My FLTRSE3 had her cherry busted, 56xxx miles and tore the engine down. Worse thing I found was the rear ACR was not even finger tight. Guess it's been that way all along, the CCP would show good, I never did a leakdown test.
I'm a DIY'er so I chose to rebuild the OEM engine from the cases up.  :drink: I could have bought a S&S replacement engine on what I have spent in parts, it's a slippery slope.

Ready to begin the assembly process as soon as I quit getting the stink eye from my wife about neglecting other matters around the house.

Wish me luck  :orange:
