Hi, I just bought an 06 Electra glide cvo.autumn haze, beautiful bike. 23,000 miles on it. Was wondering if the 103 screaming eagle has the same problem as the 88ci motor problem with the cam chain tensioners.Thanks for any help.

Yes. At 23,000 you need to take a look inside the camchest.

Yes you will have problems! I changed mine out to the SE hydraulic cam plate along with the SE high pressure oil pump
at about 25k miles. Most stock ones lasted to the mid 30k, I was told.

Why not go to gear drive cams and eliminate the tensioner?

Not sure the exact differences but, well worth the piece of mind and I'd bet not as much as doing tensioners again.

The replacement tensioners from Cyco work OK. The better solution is Harleys hybrid hydraulic tensioner kit with an improved oil pump. Stock or early chain drive cams work with that kit. Inner cam bearings should be changed at the same time, torrington/timken/Screaming eagle full complement bearings

what year did they make the change to the better tensioner and the high volume oil pump?

2007 (+ 2006 Dyna).
Hybrid upgrade kit plus Timken/Torrington/Koyo inner bearing upgrade works well. Should buy you 50k+ miles

The hybrid kit I referred to has a different higher volume pump (compared to the oem) and a billet cam plate, fixes the tensioner pad issues and allows the use of the early chain drive cams. Gear drive to work properly really needs a true crank, <.0025 tir.

Good luck with that. Anything made after 2006 usually has too much runout for gear drives. Check it before
buying any gear driven cams. I had a 2006 that was on the ragged edge, (.0023), it worked but anything much
more than that will give you trouble. Most cranks are way over that.
