Title: Jim's 131 in 2007 SEUC
Post by: garya1 on September 20, 2010, 08:43:45 PM
Several months ago, instead of putting money into the 110 motor that came in my 2007 SEUC, I installed a Jim's 131 crate motor and sold off the original motor.

JCZ and few other know me well enough to back me up when I say I have had just about every built motor you can imagine. I am like JCZ in that I am not about the highest dyno numbers you can find but for my main bagger I wanted cool running, stock starting and idling and good torque between 2000 and 5000 rpms.

I installed this motor with only a 54mm TB and the D&D borzilla with QUIET Baffle. Got the map for this from Zippers as I have a Thundermax self tuning ecm in this bike. (actually, I run 4 bikes with T-Max)

This bike is a perfect bagger motor right out of the crate! IT runs COOL in California heat. It starts and idles like stock and it can cruise around town quietly and at a very low RPM without galloping or otherwise giving away it's sleeper status. With the quiet baffle it is quiet UNTIL you wind it up on the freeway and even then it is still fairly quiet.

I consider it the ultimate bagger motor with mild manners and MORE then enough get up and go. Yes, I could change cams add compression and easily gey another 20-30 HP on the top end but I would not even consider doing so because the bike is SOOOOO smooth and mild mannered except when you really get on it.

Of couse as always, it has suspesion and brakes to match the power with quick stoppong ability and great conering capability.

For dragging my knees with my hair on fire,
I just ordered the HD 120R race motor for my 206 Dyna Bobber. I will let you know how that turns out.

Another interesting point is after selling off the old motor, it only cost about $6,000 for all the parts to do this. Not cheap, but you can easliy spend as much building up your original motor. Plus I got a one year warranty from HD!

Nice touch with the "CXXXI". You're got to update the 2007 registry with your bike.

I like reading about a good experience. That almost makes me want to put mine back in.

Has Jim's improved their 131"? I remember reading horror story after horror story on this site.  If it is improved it certainly makes a nice option to those who can swing it.  Wish I could swing?

Rooster I wish him all the best on the motor, but its only been a couple of months, before you can say the problems are gone/resolved you need to give it some more time.  Sure hope he doesnt have cam plate issues or shifting flywheels or leaking intake seals.  If it were mine I would be calling Jim's to find out if the motor had the new cam plate or not that would be my biggest worry upfront.   :nixweiss:

Some nice numbers there Gary! :2vrolijk_21:

I'm kind of surprised to not see you with an 09, 10 or 11 bagger.  Or am I not up to speed on your latest.  How many bikes in your stable now?

Thanks for the good wishes Harry. The update is the motor showed up and it is reinstalled and we started it today. Tomorrow I will start the break in process again. I will have to find out about the cam plate. Didn't know there was a new one. I had the bottom end weld service done, they call it "race crank" when the motor was first built. They did say the lower end was ok.

Yeah JCZ,

The 2007 is my newest. Maybe a 2011 or 2012 SERG is in the future. It's just hard to part with my 2001 serg as it has 120" Baker -BoOD 6, 18" PM wheels, Traxion forks, Brembo Brakes, Progressivwe shocks, Sta-Bo and true trak...All this was in 2009 as an update. This is the original "tree stump puller" and has sentimental value.

I think you saw the turbo Vrod with RG fairing at street vibes in 2008? So with three baggers, well I guess you are right, I need a 2012 SERG. Thanks for convincing me!!!  :) However I will probably pull the motor and put in the 131 Jims if things keep going so well with that build on the 2007 SEUC. Although from what I have read here I am a lucky one compared to others who tried this motor in a bagger.

300 miles so far on updated 131 and much smoother than before. BSR says the same and feels much better to her so maybe we are ok this time, only time and miles will tell for sure. Dry outside today so 200 more miles and I can change the oil again.

Just for the record, I just sold off this 2007 CVO with 37,000 miles on it. about 28,000 of that was on the Jim's 131 and all I did was replace the Jim's lifters with S&S premiums after a few months as a preventative measure due to all the negative reports on the Jim's lifters.

Once in a while a good result should also be recognized!
 :bananarock:

For the record, read my initial installation. I did not wring every pony out of this motor when I installed it with 54mm TB and quiet baffles. I still rode it hard but wanted and got a very smooth ride. Got that and 8 years of low mileage fun. Actually, rode it like I sole it as per my training from JCZ.

Paying a little extra for the welded crank probably had something to do with the good results. And of course the S&S lifter upgrade probably saved me thanks to this website!
