Title: H-D on the financial pages
Post by: SPIDERMAN on April 13, 2006, 03:44:51 PM
Sales were up 6 percent in the first quarter, but stock price dipped 6% on news that although H-D will Mfgr 13,000 2007 model vehicles in the 2nd quarter, they will not ship them till the 3rd quarter.
In layman's terms, they're extending the model year in the showroom till Oct 1st. No new bikes after Sturgis this year, even though they'll be sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Now, I have to say, even though I have been declared by a wide cross section of members on this site to bleed H-D Black,White and Orange- - - THAT SUCKS

Based on the stock of 2006 bikes in the showroom here, they'll need until then to reduce stock to a point where they have room to park them at the dealer.  Its a fine line between one to few and one to many.

That Oct 1 date that Spiderman quoted is correct unless something changes at the summer dealer meeting.

A interesting side-note to this.......did anyone else notice in the current issue of the ENTHUSIAST that Willie G and his son Bill Davidson met w/ the members of the Web-site v-rodforums.com when they had their 2nd gathering in Daytona?  Wonder if he'd like to come to MV this year?  I think he was invited last year, wasn't he?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif] spyder

Hey Spyder,

I saw that too.  I wondered if that was a "private" forum or one affiliated with MoCo?

According to the picture/article, the vrod forum is not affiliated with the moco.  My guess is that the moco could care less about us air cooled folks.  We're nothin but history.

Its ok to be history.  I am an old fart anyway.

But for short hops that VRod is the chit!

Well, even though H-D's total overall sales were down, my dealer San Diego H-D has sold out it's entire 2006 inventory. Nothing but used bikes and new Thunder Mountain Customs sittin on the showroom floor. The owner told me Saturday they sold over 1,200 new 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. #1 V-Rod dealer in the world, #13 overall worldwide.

We were all sharing posts about the sales issue a few months back so I am curious what the dealerships in other parts of the country did for the year ?

Here in Maryland they have them still sitting on the floor and even still in the crates in the back. Funny thing though the 07 touring models will start hitting the dealers as we speak. With a big bore TC motor to boot.

Whoa.... :o....that's probably what was eluded to in a earlier post about dealer's probably wanting to get rid of all '06 models or not be able to give'um away.  [smiley=nervous.gif] har!  spyder

Hey BB.......reckon the MOCO is still on the schedule to hold back the release of the '07 models?  Doesn't make sense unless your dealer is the exception.  :-? spyder

still got plenty, but he sells a ton of bikes.....never seems to be a problem selling all they can get........keeps me amazed.   Sounds like a good plan getting Beagle to bop on over and post what's shown at the dealer show.  Exactly when do you go under the knife?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  We'll be waiting to hear on the new bikes and the new knee.  ;) har!  spyder

The dealers here (two of them) are getting sparse, particularly the touring models.  Only saw a handful on the floor Saturday, and they are REALLY pushing the Sportsters, with ads on the local radio, etc.  PARTICULARLY the Sportster.  They've sold quite a few bikes in the past couple of weeks..they had 8 or 10 VRODS left though, including an SE model in Red that I lusted after pretty bad Saturday...but, there ain't no way right now.  I'll bet they didn't have a half dozen Ultras left though, so I firmly believe in the 95 inch rumor about that one.  Makes sense, cause everyone around here gets the kit on them anyway, sooner or later.

I've never bought a bike at year's end. Do they discount them at all like the car dealers do to clear the lots for the new model year ?
They did that in the 70's and early 80's.......but, not as of late.  I figure what goes around, comes around....if you hang around.  [smiley=hanged.gif] har!  spyder

I love this line " what goes around, comes around....if you hang around."

On Saturday we noticed the same empty sales floor syndrome at our local dealer.

Sportsters and a couple of Deluxe, one SEVRod!

The local dealer did have a couple of the bikes "marked down"...being mindful of the fact that this is the same dealer I would not buy from because they wanted 3 to 4 K OVER MSRP.  I did notice that they had a couple of them marked below MSRP, but not by much.  About the only time you can get them to knock any off around here is Janurary and February...but the SE's, forget about it!!

Lots of 2006' model's, not FL CVO's, but quite a few VROD SE's, sitting in at least 3 of the local dealerships here. Maybe they'll transfer them out or sell off at a loss (YEAH RIGHT!) ? I suspect they'll be some delays in deliveries to let the dealers decide what to do with the left-overs and of course all the SE performance items that will be going away. Sad situation.

No, B...no snow, except on rare occasions, but it usually rains a lot and is about 40 degrees...not all the time, but those are our two worst months weather/temperature-wise.  It's not like that every day, but can be like that for a few days in a row.

They were offering me a "deal" back in Feb on a Glide, but then I saw the SE...the rest is history....

Once March hits though, forget about any "deals" around here.

Spiderman, Spydglide:

Found it!

Nothing wrong with the Servicar. It was a great trike for it's time and what it was ment to be used for.

Today and the Harley factory and trikes........one never knows what they have bought, tested, junked, still have running around with "MFG" plates on it!

At Sturgis in 2003 at the Harley show, Willie G was all over our V-Rod trike for one hour.

The best Harley I ever took a ride on was one that came to the shop about 5 years ago, got their in a big black truck and black trailer and had orange letters all over it. Be four it got converted to a trike, I took a ride on it.

The only bike at the time that went into nutural with no problem, never had a clunk when you put it in gear, and pulled so hard it just had to be a "big" motor.

Today I own the 103 that we all have!

So you never know what will be out next, or never come out.

Dean Nelson
