Garman 660 and cell phone
« on: December 06, 2015, 11:26:34 AM »

Hello all..

I finally have a phone that will link to my garman 660. I have a 2013 cvo ultra.

My problem... i can not hear the phone audio through the bike. I have tried all three switch positions with no luck... The navigation audio plays through just fine...

What am i doing wrong? Or do i just need to scrap it...

I believe the phone function has to be bluetooth'd to a headset to be operable... will not play through the radio (if it did you would only be able to hear and not talk to the party on the other end since there is no microphone on the radio or Zumo). :nixweiss:

actually, there is a mic on the zumo.  I have this functionality on my 2013, but that is pre-rushmore infotainment.  I have the aux output from the zumo going into the aux input on my radio.  if using the aux input, get turn by turn directions, and the music (off of the zumo internal mp3 player) is muted.  because of the distance from me to the zumo (road glide), i'm not going to be able to carry on a conversation while on the highway, but if I do receive a call, I can pull over and complete the call without ever having to take my cell phone out of my saddlebag.

You sure about that?? :nixweiss: I wasn't aware of, nor could I find anything on the Garmin website stating that (zūmo® 660LM).

The Power of Bluetooth

zūmo 660LM features Bluetooth wireless technology. Simply connect your zūmo with your cell phone and a Bluetooth-enabled headset or helmet (sold separately) to make and receive calls on the go. With it, you’re free to safely talk on your phone without having to remove your gloves or helmet. You can also call points of interest through the zūmo Bluetooth interface, perfect for a last-minute change of plans or a quick pit stop for food and fuel.

Maybe the caller's voice/sound is coming thru your speakers (I remember that occurring when I had my Zumo 550 paired to my phone) and the microphone on your phone is picking up on your end. :nixweiss:

Either way, still easier to answer it and talk in your headset than the old fashioned way of pulling over on the side of the freeway and then trying to hear the person talking to you while cars and trucks are flying by.  :2vrolijk_21:

I've only used my phone a couple of times while rolling but it's really easy.....the way you mentioned, Gary.  :2vrolijk_21:

Check out www.hdbomm.com . I put this on my bike and can now use my cell phone through the GPS.

The only down side is, if you're listening to the radio you can't hear the phone ring. You have to have the radio set to aux to use the phone function. It took me a bit to get used to it but the GPS screen does change when a call comes in and it catches my attention most of the time. Then I switch to aux and handle the call. If you listen to music through the GPS this isn't an issue.

Kewl, thanks... the specs lead you to believe it would require a headset. :-\
